There’s a Bucks alumnus in the 2026 FIFA World Cup — for the first time ever!

Francis de Vries made the New Zealand squad, which drew 2-2 last night in their tournament debut against Iran. We’re proud to have been a part of his journey.

The left-footed defender won two national titles over three seasons with the Bucks. He captained the 2016 championship side, scoring in both the semifinal and final.

“They’ve treated me really well,” de Vries told reporters at the time, “and I’m really glad I picked Michigan and am in USL League Two it’s a fantastic league. There’s a lot of great players, and they push me to improve my level every day.”

After 32 appearances for the Bucks he was drafted 29th overall by Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft. He now plays for A-League club Auckland FC.

De Vries and the All Whites next play at 9 p.m. Sunday against Egypt.

Congratulations, Francis!
