🎨📚 Learning Together, Growing Together!💛

Our 3K and 4K Curriculum Night was filled with learning, laughter, and meaningful connections! 🧩✨

We loved welcoming our families as parents engaged with our amazing teachers through hands-on activities that gave them a glimpse into what their little learners experience in the classroom each day.

From exploring fun learning activities to discovering how we support our students’ growth and development, our families got to learn, play, and have fun right alongside our educators! 🖍️👐

Thank you to our wonderful parents and dedicated teachers for making this evening so special. When families and educators work together, we create a stronger foundation for our children to learn, grow, and thrive! 🌱❤️

🎉 A historic day for the Flushing YMCA and our community! 💙

Today, we celebrated the groundbreaking of the new B**g and May Yu Family YMCA at Flushing Commons—an exciting milestone as the Flushing Y celebrates 100 years of serving Queens and begins building toward its next century of impact.

The new 63,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art YMCA will create even more opportunities for our community to connect, grow, and thrive, with an eight-lane swimming pool—the largest of any YMCA branch in NYC—a regulation-size gymnasium, exercise studios, multipurpose rooms, and dedicated spaces for youth programs and our New Americans Initiative.

👏 A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make this moment possible—Congresswoman Grace Meng Grace Meng Rep. Grace Meng , Assemblymember Ron Kim Ron Kim , New York State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie Carl E. Heastie , Councilmember Sandra Ung Sandra Ung , Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Queens BP Donovan Richards , YMCA of Greater New York Board Chair Raymond Yu and the Yu family, Delta Air Lines Delta Air Lines , The Clark Foundation, F&T Group, the New York City Economic Development Corporation NYCEDC , and all of our partners and supporters!

And a very special THANK YOU ❤️ to our incredible Flushing YMCA staff—past and present—whose dedication, hard work, and love for this community have carried the Y through 100 years of service. This milestone belongs to you, too. 💙

100 years behind us. A new YMCA ahead. And our next century in Flushing is just beginning. 🏗️🎉

Everyone deserves the chance to feel confident and safe in the water.

It was inspiring to welcome local leaders into the pool to take part lessons and also hear firsthand how access to swim education can change lives.

Every lesson helps build confidence, teaches lifesaving skills, and empowers New Yorkers to stay safe in and around the water.

Today is Lifeguard Appreciation Day! We celebrate the extraordinary individuals in our branches who do far more than watch the water. At the Y, lifeguards provide safety at our pools, welcoming New Yorkers of all ages to build skills, gain confidence, and have fun in a supportive environment 🏊

Ready to level up your incline dumbbell press technique? Staten Island Broadway YMCA fitness instructor Daniele is here to show you how to safely lift the weight and incorporate four-second negatives. The “negative” is the lowering phase of an exercise. When doing an incline dumbbell press, it’s when the dumbbells move from the top of the press back down toward your chest. This part of the lift is as important as the press itself—it’s one of the best ways to build strength, muscle, and control 💪

Find your Y and the routine that works for you with a supportive community to cheer you on through the link in our bio.

What does it mean to stand up for your community?

For Layla, a participant in our Teens Take the City (TTC) Youth Leadership Program, it starts with using your voice.

As Layla shares, if you care about your community, don’t be afraid to speak up about issues that matter. Civic engagement isn’t reserved for elected officials or community leaders. It starts with neighbors, young people, families, and everyday residents who care enough to get involved and advocate for the people around them.

At the YMCA of Greater New York, we believe strong communities are built from the ground up. Through programs like Teens Take the City, young people develop the confidence, knowledge, and leadership skills to become active participants in shaping their neighborhoods and creating positive change.

When we empower young people to raise their voices today, we’re helping build stronger, healthier communities for tomorrow.
