A Great Day on the Water with Musky Guarantee Guide Service
If you ever have the opportunity to book a trip with Taylor Flannery of Musky Guarantee Guide Service LLC , I highly recommend doing it. You will not be disappointed. Taylor is one of the best musky guides in the Vilas and Oneida County area, and his knowledge, professionalism, and willingness to share what he knows truly set him apart.
I had the opportunity to get out on the water today with Taylor after a last-minute opening became available. To say this guy knows what he is doing would be an understatement. I feel that I have a pretty good understanding of where to fish, what baits to use, and the techniques needed to catch muskies. However, every time I get in Taylor’s boat, he manages to go above and beyond to answer my questions and point out the small adjustments and techniques that can make a big difference in getting more fish to the boat.
Whether you are brand new to musky fishing or a seasoned veteran, I highly recommend booking a trip with Taylor. There is a very good chance you will learn something new, improve your technique, and, if you’re lucky, put a great fish in the boat. I have been fortunate enough to do exactly that every time I have fished with him.
Today, we were rewarded with this absolutely gorgeous 45 1/4-inch musky. There could have been a few more opportunities as well, but unfortunately, I couldn’t keep them pinned!
Taylor, thank you for being such a genuinely great guy, a great friend, and an outstanding guide. I also want to thank you for the support you have shown our club. It was great spending time in the boat, talking fishing, and picking your brain.
Now, Gus Manthey better step up his game for when we get together in September!
I’m already looking forward to the next time we meet up on the water and another great experience in the boat.
If you’re looking for a guide in the Vilas or Oneida County area, give Taylor Flannery and Musky Guarantee Guide Service a call. You won’t regret it!

Lake Winnebago System Musky Fisheries Update
The Winnebagoland Musky Club would like to thank everyone who attended our meeting this past Wednesday, as well as our special guest speaker, Angelo Cazolla of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WI-DNR).
Angelo provided a very informative and insightful presentation on the current status of the Lake Winnebago System musky fisheries. The information he shared gave our members a greater understanding of the movements, growth, and overall population dynamics of muskies throughout this remarkable system.
One of the most fascinating aspects of the presentation was learning just how far these fish can travel. Muskies within the Lake Winnebago System have been documented moving significant distances, including traveling west through Lake Puckaway and even making their way into Green Bay, navigating the various dams and fish passage structures along the way. This information truly highlights how interconnected the waterways are and how important continued research and monitoring are to the future of this fishery.
As a club, we were proud to support these efforts by donating funds to purchase PIT tags for this fall's musky stocking. These tags will provide valuable information that can help fisheries biologists better understand musky growth rates, movement patterns, survival, and population dynamics for years to come.
We purchased the PIT tags directly through the information provided by Angelo and the WI-DNR to ensure that our donation was used specifically for the intended purpose. We would also like to encourage other musky clubs and fishing organizations that may see this post to consider supporting similar research efforts if they are able. Every contribution can help provide valuable information for the continued management and protection of this incredible fishery.
PIT tag readers are also available for purchase at reasonable prices through a variety of retailers, including Amazon. These readers allow tagged fish to be identified when recaptured, providing important data that can be shared with the DNR and used to further study musky movement, growth, survival, and population trends.
Continued research and cooperation between anglers, fishing clubs, and the Wisconsin DNR will be critical in providing the information needed to make sound management decisions for the Lake Winnebago System in the future.
As an added bonus, Bob Kimball from Trucker Lures stopped in to support the Winnebagoland Musky Club . Bob brought along some of his outstanding lures, including the Lugnut and Lot Lizard, and generously donated a portion of the proceeds from his sales back to the club. These funds will help support projects such as PIT tagging and other conservation efforts.
On behalf of the Winnebagoland Musky Club, a huge THANK YOU to Angelo Cazolla for sharing his knowledge and expertise, and to Bob Kimball and Trucker Lures for supporting our club and our conservation efforts.
Your support helps us continue working toward a stronger, healthier musky fishery for generations to come.
Thank you, Angelo and Bob!

DON'T FORGET TONIGHT'S MEETING AT 7:00 P.M.!!! INFO BELOW
Bob Kimball of Trucker Lures will be at our meeting on August 5th. He will be selling baits and donating a portion of the proceeds back to the Club.
We will also have Speaker- Angelo Cozzola, Winnebago System Gamefish Biologist
The Winnebago System received Great Lakes spotted muskellunge from 2015 through 2021. These stocking efforts have resulted in increased catch rates in DNR survey work as well as angler reports. Fish observed this spring in DNR survey work ranged from 37.1 to 45.4 inches and all but 1 fish had a PIT tag. These fish were primarily 7-year-olds from the 2020 stocking, though older fish, including a 20-year individual were observed. Prior to 2026, there has only been one angler reported PIT tagged fish on the system. Thus far in 2026, there has been seven reports. Musky anglers on the Winnebago System could serve as a critical tool to better understand the return on stocking effort as capacity for musky targeted survey work is limited.
