Spent a few hours at Roaring River today. Wanted to get some Catch and Release in on the last day of Catch and Keep for the season. Roaring River is full of Trout, the water is low and clear and did not see a single Trophy Trout in the Upper Section. But now let the fun begin in 2 weeks when it is Catch and Release Only. The Trout are definitely hungry and willing to take everything I threw at them. I used everything from Dry Flies to Nymphs today. My Signiture Light Tan Scud did better than any other Fly today but that is normal. Here is a list of all the flies that worked.

I have been asked a lot about what leaders I use when fly fishing. I tell everyone the same but here is the detailed description of what I use and how I build my leaders.
I use 3 different pound weights of Fluorocarbon for building my nymphing leader and I only use Seaguar Red Label Flouracarbon.
I start with 5’ of 10 pound then 3 feet of 6 pound and finish with 1 foot of 4 pound. If I am using a dropper fly then I tie another foot of 4 pound to the bend of my top fly for my dropper fly.
Hope this helps and it works every where I Fly Fish. It will also save you money on pre made tapered leaders and costly tippet spools.

Taneycomo didn’t disappoint me again. However the Brown Trout are not as many as there was and they are on the smaller side now. Still a few Hens full of eggs wanting to lay. Was able to Catch and Release a couple Browns this weekend with the biggest being 23” and full of eggs. There are a ton of quality Rainbow Trout. I biggest of the trip was 21”. If you take your time, have a great presentation and the right fly, you will be rewarded.

David caught this 30.5" rainbow Saturday on his own DNL Custom Fly Rods & Flys signature tan scud. The fish was released. This is his 3rd fish in the Hall of Fame! 😮

Taneycomo is still fishing Great. This is weekend number 5 and what a weekend it was. Not only did I run into several of our customers/friends, I made a lot of new friends as well. I want to thank everyone that took pictures for me over the weekend also. Now for the Fly Fishing. The fishing is hot, the trout are hungry and with the right fly in the right place and right drift, you’re going to hook up. The Brown Trout Hens are still full of eggs and the males are right there also. I Caught and Released Brown Trout between 18” to 25”. There are Rainbow Trout everywhere and they are looking amazing. My biggest Rainbow Trout of the weekend was 30 1/2” also had a 24” and a 23”. All trophy Trout were caught with no generation but they are really moving when they start generating. I hooked into a 30 plus inch Brown Trout Hen that took me for a spin and finally something had to give and well it wasn’t the Trout. Long Distance Catch and Release is fun also.

#14 Brown San Juan Worm
I switch over to #16 Scuds when they are generating not sure if you half to but that is what I do. I also use a small sticky backed indicator when the water is off and switch to a bigger indicator when they generate.

Wow what a day. Taneycomo was showing me a lot of love this afternoon. Caught & Released this Awesome 30 1/2” Rainbow Trout. I was using my Signature #18 Light Tan Scud. It was a perfect hook set and amazing fight. I will be adding all the pictures and information from this trip tomorrow. Just had to show this Big Boy off now.

Finished up another excellent trip to Branson Missouri to Fly Fish Lake Taneycomo. The Bigger Browns are starting to show up and the Rainbows are definitely there and ready to eat. Sunday morning I hooked into a tremendous Brown and the #20 Scud finally popped after about 10 minutes into the fight, but I had her within a few feet a couple of times. The fight was well worth it. Did manage several Browns between 19” to 21 1/2” long. I also caught a sucker on one of my scuds, which was awesome. My biggest Trout of the trip was a Beautiful 24” Rainbow. As always I completely practice catch and release.
I did end up catching 100 plus Trout over the weekend.
