Joe Ochoa has been part of the CrossFit Santa Barbara community since 2025, and his story is one that puts everything into perspective.
After undergoing a liver transplant, Joe came to CFSB ready to rebuild his strength and take advantage of a new lease on life. Since then, he’s made huge improvements in both his strength and cardiovascular fitness—and he’s continued to challenge himself along the way. “I’ve been an athlete all my life. I had to come and do something because I wasn’t going to wait around to circle the drain.”
One of those challenges? Completing the Murph Challenge. Joe attributes his success to “How successful the program (Longevity Class) has been in rehabbing my body from a major surgery.”
Joe’s consistency, determination, and attitude are a reminder that sometimes the biggest win isn’t a PR on the whiteboard. It’s simply being able to show up, put in the work, and appreciate what your body is capable of. His success is far from complete as he says, “There’s a reason to come back. My mobility and flexibility has drastically improved and, most importantly, my strength.”
We’re proud to have Joe as part of the CFSB family. Here’s to the hard work, the progress, and this new chapter.
