Both OpenAI and Anthropic dropped new flagship models within weeks of each other this summer, and if you're running a business solo, you don't have time to test every benchmark yourself — so here's the practical breakdown.

Claude Fable 5 leans into deep, creative, and architectural thinking. Early testing suggests it's the stronger pick for complex strategy work, long-form planning, and anything where you want the model to reason through ambiguity rather than just execute. The tradeoff is cost — it runs noticeably more expensive per task than Sol.

ChatGPT 5.6 Sol is built for speed and efficiency. It's cheaper to run, faster to respond, and reportedly more consistent at structured output (think: templated reports, repeatable workflows, agentic task chains). For solo operators burning through usage limits fast, that efficiency matters.

My take for solo CEOs: if your bottleneck is thinking through messy, high-stakes decisions (positioning, offers, hard calls), Fable 5 is worth the premium. If your bottleneck is volume — daily ops, content, repeatable workflows — Sol's speed and price make it the better default.

Google Just Renamed NotebookLM → Gemini Notebook (Here's What Actually Changed)
If you use NotebookLM for research, client work, or turning your own docs into content, Google made an announcement this week worth knowing about.

As of July 16, NotebookLM is now called Gemini Notebook. Nothing you've built disappears, your existing notebooks, sources, and audio overviews all carry over. It's still a standalone app, not folded into the general Gemini chatbot.

The real news is under the hood: every notebook is getting its own secure cloud computer, letting it write and run code against your uploaded sources. Practically, that means better data analysis, like asking it to actually calculate numbers from a spreadsheet you uploaded instead of just summarizing it. It's live now for Ultra/Workspace Business users, with Pro/web users getting it over the next few weeks.

Bottom line for us as solo founders: nothing to change today, same login, same notebooks. If you'd been on the fence about NotebookLM wondering if Google would abandon it, this is the opposite, they're investing further. Worth a second look if you need it to actually crunch data from your own documents.
