Join us tonight at The Verdict Bar & Grill in Oregon City!

The Verdict Bar and Grill will be hosting a special community meet-and-greet event tonight from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM with Sheriff James Rhodes!

PDX Arsenal proudly endorses Sheriff James Rhodes for Clackamas County Sheriff this election cycle. Please make sure to fill out your ballots and get them in the dropbox.

Sheriff Rhodes is widely respected by officers throughout the ranks, a reputation earned through his professionalism during his long tenure with the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), his proven moral integrity, courage, honesty, and unwavering commitment to transparency.

After five years of retirement, and at the request of members of his former department and the community, Sheriff Rhodes agreed to come out of his well-deserved retirement to continue serving the people of Clackamas County.

The very least we can do is show our appreciation and support at the ballot box. Ballots are beginning to arrive in mailboxes across the county. In fact, I just received mine this morning!

At PDX Arsenal, our commitment to fi***rm safety, responsible ownership, and protecting our constitutional rights is no secret. We believe these rights belong to every law-abiding American, regardless of background.

When I first met Sheriff Rhodes at Douglas Ridge R***e Club a couple of weeks ago, I had the opportunity to ask him several important questions about his positions on fi***rm-related issues, including Measure 114.

After our conversation, I can personally attest that Sheriff Rhodes understands the concerns of responsible fi***rm owners and supports protecting our constitutional rights.

I walked away from that conversation feeling confident in his leadership, his vision for Clackamas County, and his commitment to keeping our residents and communities safe.

I believe we owe him a tremendous thank-you for his willingness to return to public service.

And one of the most meaningful ways we can express that gratitude is through our votes. Your vote in this election matters more than you may realize.

A special thank-you to Jake and Tessa Joy, owners of The Verdict Bar & Grill!

Jake and Tessa have graciously opened the doors of their incredible restaurant to host tonight’s event, and I want to make sure they receive the recognition they deserve.

They have consistently gone above and beyond in supporting our local community, including generously allowing PDX Arsenal to host our concealed carry classes at their establishment for years.

As a fellow small-business owner, I understand the time, effort, and resources that go into supporting community events. I firmly believe that local businesses willing to step up and bring people together deserve our recognition, appreciation, and support!

We’re looking forward to a great evening, reconnecting with familiar faces, and meeting some new ones!

Come out tonight, show some love to The Verdict Bar & Grill, support a fantastic local business, and take the opportunity to meet Sheriff Rhodes, along with me and the PDX Arsenal team!

We hope to see you there!

A longtime friend and huge supporter of PDX Arsenal recently asked me if I’d make another hat for him because all 4+ of his have finally worn out from wearing one nearly every day to represent!

So, I decided to order a small run of just 10 more SnapBacks — 5 black and 5 multicam.

These aren’t cheap printed hats. Each one uses a genuine, high-quality leather patch with the PDX Arsenal logo laser-etched into it, then hand-riveted onto the hat. They’re made locally in Oregon City by my good friend Michael Cummings, owner of RogueApparatus — arguably one of the best leather holster companies in the country.

I picked them up just a couple of days ago, and 4 have already sold. 🙂

That leaves only:

3 Black
3 Multicam

They’re $45 each, and once these are gone, I’m not sure when I’ll order another batch.

If you want one, comment “I want one” below and specify black or multicam. First come, first served.

Grab one for yourself or as a gift for someone who supports PDX Arsenal!

AN UPDATE FROM THE OWNER:

As we enter Q4 of 2026, I want to share something I haven’t talked much about publicly.

It has been a long road to recovery, and there were very real moments this year when I questioned whether PDX Arsenal would survive into 2027.

After an unexpected move to a new location being forced due to circumstances outside of my control, a failed attempt in March to integrate AI into PDX Arsenal’s website which was intended to help automate processes and grow the PDX Arsenal brand name, the outcome did the exact opposite and set us back substantially. If that was not enough… I was in a very serious motorcycle wreck on June 2nd that totaled my bike, and required 6 ER visits in 50 days, PDX Arsenal went from being up 23% in Q1 of 2026 to being down 51% in only two short months.

I was unable to teach consistently as I was dealing with the physical aftermath of my traumatic injuries, and the emotional aftermath of quietly watching my dream that I have spent my entire adult life building crumble right in front of me, my pride and my ego kept me suffering in silence with the exception of those closest to me.

For the first time in my adult life, I fell behind on bills. The situation became dire enough to where I had to set my pride aside and enough humility to ask for financial assistance. However, due to being self-employed and both of my companies being structured as sole-proprietorship LLCs, I was informed that I was not eligible for unemployment. I tried reaching out to clackamas county—a county I’ve resided in my entire life, and donated tens of thousands of dollars to other organizations within Clackamas county (local school fundraisers, youth sports team sponsorships, firefighter auctions, etc.) — only to be told that I am “outside of Clackamas County’s funding zone” even though I live well within Clackamas County borderlines.

Eventually, I realized I only had two choices on the table:

Option #1: Double down. Sell most of my belongings, pay down as much compounding debt as I possibly could, and reinvest what little remained back into PDX Arsenal.

Option #2: Accept defeat, close PDX Arsenal, and walk away from what I’ve worked relentlessly toward building for more than 15 years.

This is not a “GoFundMe” post. Those who know me already know which option I chose.

Over the past two months, I have worked 7 days a week, 15+ hours a day, teaching myself how to manage my website, studying SEO best practices, rebuilding our online presence, and spending approximately 200 hours repairing PDX Arsenal’s Google performance score, which at one point had fallen as low as 29/100.

And I’m incredibly happy to finally say:

PDX Arsenal is back—and we’re building something better than ever.

There are some exciting things coming that I can’t share just yet, but I can tell you this: new staff, a much better website that is nearing completion, new classes, and a brand new tiered live-fire training program with frame-worthy certificates that students can earn by training with us.

That training program is also designed to exceed the requirements which would be mandated with Oregon’s “permit-to-purchase” scheme that is scheduled to go into effect by January 1, 2028, unless it’s shut down first, which is a fight we are still actively engaged in helping with.

This post is solely intended to thank every single venue, student, sponsor, partner, friend, fan and supporter who have opened their doors to us, taken one of our classes, recommended PDX Arsenal to their friends or family, shared our posts, or trusted us to provide them with the highest level quality of education and training that we can. Your continued support allows us to continue our mission as a company and affords us the opportunity to continue giving back to our communities.

This has, without a doubt, been one of the most challenging chapters of my life.

But It is with profound gratitude, and optimism that I invite you all into the next chapter that is already being written. My hope is that you are written in it with me.

Imagine this in your eye.

Now say this three times:

Friends don’t let friends train without properly rated safety gear.

Safety has always been—and will always remain—priority #1 at PDX Arsenal.

Our non-negotiable range essentials include:

• Z87+ rated eye protection
• Adequate hearing protection
• A quality tourniquet — we carry and recommend North American Rescue C.A.T. tourniquets
• Lead decontamination wipes
• A basic medical kit
• A safety brief before fi***rms come out of their cases, including role assignment, and contingency plans if there were to be a training incident on the range.

The metal fragments pictured here were picked up near our feet at the end of our instructor development day at the range this afternoon, in only about two minutes of looking as we picked up our casings.

This post isn’t meant to make anyone afraid to train. In fact, we encourage responsible training as often as your schedule and your budget allow.

It’s meant to remind you of something that’s equally as important as consistent training itself – wearing proper rated safety gear that protects two of our most important senses: our ears and our eyes.

You can train for years in ordinary prescription glasses or improperly rated eyewear without a problem.

Until the one time there is a problem.

That’s a day we stay prepared for — and the day we hope never comes.

Good safety equipment can seem unnecessary right up until the moment it becomes the most important thing you brought to the range.

Train hard. Stay aware. Make it home safe.

And if you train with someone you care about, make sure they’re wearing properly rated protection too.

Friends don’t let friends train without proper PPE.

Today marks the 15-year anniversary of PDX Arsenal!! 🎉🎉🎉

Did you know that approximately 20% of businesses fail within their first year?

By five years, that number skyrockets to 50%.

And at the ten years mark, the failure rate rises to a staggering 65–75%. 🤯

I intentionally waited until the day is almost gone because I don’t want the credit—nor do I desire it.

I want to make one thing crystal clear: The glory goes to God, and God alone.

He knew from the moment I entered this world that teaching would become my calling. From day 1 one starting PDX Arsenal my only goal has ever been to make a positive impact on people’s lives and to do it to the very best of my ability, every single day.

Since July 20, 2011, PDX Arsenal has brought seasons of success—but, more often than not, seasons of doubt, uncertainty, stress, anxiety, and moments where I was convinced that I would become just another statistic… one more small business that simply couldn’t find a way to survive.

Instead, this journey has given me something far more valuable than financial success ever could:

It has blessed me with friendships, relationships, and lifelong bonds that no amount of money could ever buy.

From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank every single person who has ever supported PDX Arsenal in any way, shape, or form.

Whether you have attended a class, left a review, referred a friend, shared a post, partnered with us, or simply believed in what we were trying to build—you have played a part in this journey, and without you, this wouldn’t have been possible.

Because of your support, my team and I have had the incredible privilege of helping tens of thousand’s of people become safer, more educated, and more confident fi***rm owners. That responsibility is something we will never take for granted.

When I first started this company, if I had walked into a bank asking for a business loan based on my business plan, I would have been laughed out the door.

Yet here we are—15 years later—still operating under the very same philosophy we started with: earning the trust of new students every single week, knowing there is no legal requirement for them to ever return once they’ve received their license.

That means every class, every recommendation, and every review has to be earned.

Some of you have supported PDX Arsenal in ways that are impossible to measure. You’ve invested your time, your encouragement, your expertise, your referrals, your prayers, and your friendship, and I want you to know I could never possibly repay you for what you’ve done for me.

But I can promise you this: I will always do my best to pay it forward.

If there’s one thing I hope everyone takes away from this post, it’s this:

Dream big. Set goals that in thr moment you feel are impossible. Believe in yourself, even if no one else believes in you. Work harder than everyone else in the room, but most important, Trust that God has a plan for your life—and when He opens a door, have the courage to walk through it.

Cheers to the first 15 amazing years… and God willing, the next 15+ as well!

Long live PDX Arsenal. 🙏🙌

In 2025, PDX Arsenal donated just over $9,500 worth of classes to help fund various local youth sports programs, school fundraisers, fire departments, and more.

We do this as our most sincere form of saying 'thank you' to our communities, who remain steadfast in supporting us at PDX Arsenal by taking our classes and recommending us to your friends and family.

Our gift certificates also make very well-received gifts for loved ones on birthdays, holidays, etc. Please consider us when thinking of a cool gift to give someone for a special occasion.

These two gift certificates in particular are being donated to the Oregon City grad night event, to help fund making it a very special evening for all graduates on Saturday, May 16th🎉
