We are having so much fun at Kohala Elementary school this year! Michál Anna Carrillo is moving with our keiki! We are creating new left right brain connections and opening up pathways! In addition to our weekly dance/movement, we had a special class this last week. Mr. Aiona’s reading group was reading about the instruments of West Africa, and Michál was able to bring the drums in as a culminating experience for the children. It was so wonderful to see the kids excited by the Drums. Pre-covid we had executed 7 years of our Rhythm of the Soil Drum & Dance program focusing on rhythm & agriculture ; created by Michál and Leslie Nugent. In those times, the children had been exposed to the Drums quite a bit and we found it to be so very powerful and transformative.
It was fun to have the drums back at the school, seeing the boys get out their energy and focus so intently. In this time of the digital age, it is more important than ever that we continue to put our focus on real life, on moving, playing music and sharing together. Grateful to serve. Mahalo !!

On a personal level, this has been a year of reclamation and remembrance of that which is authentically myself and the cleansing of all that is not truth. On a collective level it’s been a year of truth’s coming to light in the world and opportunity to step into greater awareness as a society. These days we are confronted with more & more tech & the need to make choices that foster all things human and our connection with one another in a world that is looking to the black box for answers. This piece is about that reclamation and remembrance on a personal and collective level. Asking us to remove the masks that have bound us to falsity as a society. Offering the option of remembering, of reclaiming our essence as Divine angelic humans, singing the songs of our ancestors & that which we truly came from. Remembering our authentic selves to stand in our greatness as God intended, surrendered to the cosmic mother, life-giving Principal, and operating in right action and interdependent harmony with all living things. This “snippet” shares a small portion of this 7 1/2 minute performance that was offered on UH performing arts center stage this last October celebrating BIDC’s 50th Anniversary! Mahalo again to for making it all happen & her years of dedication in bringing Dance to the Big Island. 🙏🏽

It was such a potent and beautiful time celebrating the 50th anniversary of big Island dance council and 50 years of dance on the big island. Lavaroots Hawaii -Kauai Shared an original choreography by Michal Anna Kudo. A 7 1/2 minute piece called “Remembrance”
Taking the audience on a journey of being taken by phones and the carrots that dangle, to breaking free owning personal self and finding truth; returning to angelic humanity.

We look forward to sharing this piece with other audiences in the future.
