The Huntington Beach High School Lacrosse program originated as a club sport in 2003 when a senior approached Ralph Ornelas to start a lacrosse team. He told Ralph Ornelas to be his coach. Chris told Ornelas that he had seven other seniors that would be the foundation of the team. Chris was adamant that he and these seven seniors wanted to start this team for the future. Chris organized a meeting at HBHS for Coach Ornelas to meet the team and to recruit other players. Coach Ornelas was introduced to the seven other seniors: Scott Harris, Troy Fleck, Fullmer, Andrew Mahlmeister, Eric Zugarazo, Alex Diaz and Brian Wright. Coach Ornelas told the players that they will forever be known as the "Founding Fathers" of lacrosse in HB. That motto gave that first team the belief and desire for the lacrosse program to succeed. Those eight seniors provided the frame work for future teams at HBHS. The present team and future teams owe a debt of gratitude to the eight "Founding Fathers", because they had the foresight and strength to see their vision come to life. In 2006, the HBHS Lacrosse program became a CIF recognized sport. The team plays in the Orange County, California, Sunset League.
