There’s so much more happening in a dance class than learning the steps.

When I’m teaching, I’m watching for the little things.

Can they hear the beat?
Can they remember which foot goes first?
Can they make a correction and try it again?
Can they stay focused when something feels hard?
Can they keep going when they don’t get it the first time?

Sometimes I’m counting.
Sometimes I’m demonstrating.
Sometimes I’m tapping a foot, moving an arm, or giving one tiny cue that suddenly makes everything click.

And those little moments matter.

Because we aren’t just teaching dancers how to dance.

We’re teaching them how to listen.
How to focus.
How to take correction.
How to work through frustration.
How to be disciplined.
How to keep trying.
How to be proud of progress, not just perfection.
And eventually, how to trust themselves.

After all these years of teaching, that is still one of my favorite things about what I get to do.

The steps matter. The technique matters. The training matters.

But the person we are helping build along the way?

That matters even more. 🖤
