Big results from Jackson. I see some things that need to continue to be worked on but for 8 months worth of work I’m proud of where we’re at.

I let Drew go to town last night.

Half of the swings were letting him drop light bat bombs off a tee as I told him he’s going to wreck his swing doing pull side bombs. But I let him do it cause well we need to learn how to hit pull side bombs.

The next bit I had to do directional work on front toss to clean the fun up.

Finished with foam balls and real balls on the machine.

From this info I can show him he lacked hard contact at the top of the zone. So him seeing it means believing it.

8u kids love to drop the hands. Got to clean that up.

The Oriole Way

The Oriole Way is a philosophy of baseball development built around fundamentals, discipline, consistency, and playing the game the right way.

It became famous through the Baltimore Orioles organization, particularly under Hall of Fame manager Earl Weaver and the organization's influential player-development leaders.

The idea was simple: Every player in the organization should be taught the same fundamental principles, from the lowest minor-league level to the major leagues.
It wasn't just about winning games. It was about developing players who understood how to win.

The core principles

1. Master the fundamentals. Fielding, throwing, hitting, baserunning, positioning, and situational awareness were practiced relentlessly.

2. Teach a consistent system. Players moving through the organization received consistent instruction and expectations.

3. Develop baseball intelligence. Players needed to understand situations, anticipate plays, and make decisions without constantly being directed.

4. Practice with purpose. Repetition mattered, but it had to reinforce the correct habits.

5. Hold everyone accountable. Talent didn't excuse poor preparation, lack of hustle, or failure to execute fundamentals.

6. Develop players for the major leagues. Minor-league development wasn't simply about winning minor-league championships. It was about preparing players to succeed at the highest level.

The old timers tilt and turned. This is such a good feeling swing when done properly. There is an equal and opposite reaction to the barrel load. This move gets the barrel turning rearward.

Somewhere over the years it went missing.

I teach this for feels. These are good moves.

Just finished two lessons with two 9th graders, and things are starting to click.

There’s nothing better than watching that light bulb turn on. The smile when they feel effortless bat speed from a proper coil for the first time. That moment when they realize what their body is capable of.

I’ll live and die by what I believe creates a successful swing.

If I had known at their age what I know now, I truly believe I would have been a better hitter.

I worked my butt off growing up, but I didn’t understand how to get the most juice out of my swing. Good hand-eye coordination, left-handed bat speed, the ability to pull the ball in the air, and relentless determination earned me a seat at the table.

And when all else failed, speed doesn’t slump.

But effort without understanding leaves a lot on the table. I know because I lived it.

That’s what drives me as a coach.

I’m not here to watch kids take mindless swings. I’m here to help them understand the movements, feel the difference, and unlock something they didn’t know they had.

I don’t want a kid leaving a lesson without an “aha” moment.

Because once a kid feels it, you can’t take that feeling away.
