Don’t Let Your Park Project Become a Nightmare!

Recently, we asked one of our ARC park designers to share three scary mistakes communities should avoid when planning an action sports park.

He shared some great reminders, but one really stood out to us: Underestimating Your Park’s Potential.

When choosing a location for a bike park or skatepark, it's important not to treat it as an afterthought or simply place it wherever s**ce happens to be available.

These facilities have the potential to become some of the most popular destinations in a community, and thoughtful planning can make all the difference.

Think about accessibility, visibility, and room to grow. What starts as a single park feature today could evolve into a larger destination as demand grows, with opportunities to expand or build in phases.

The takeaway? Plan for the park you're building today, but don't overlook what it could become tomorrow.

We all have those core childhood memories of riding bikes with friends. Usually in the middle of the street, hoping someone's older brother wasn't about to come flying around the corner.

Looking to bring more mountain bike trails to your community? Here's a grant opportunity worth exploring.

The International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) is opening applications for its 2027 Trail Accelerator Grants, designed to help communities move trail projects forward and strengthen local trail development efforts.

Two grant opportunities are available:

1. Trail Planning & Design: Professional consultation services to help communities plan and develop trail projects.

2. Education & Capacity Building: Support through Trail Care Workshops, fundraising education, and strategic planning for mountain bike and trail organizations.

Application Period: November 1 – December 31, 2026

Whether your community is just getting started or looking to build momentum on an existing project, this could be a valuable opportunity to take the next step.

Who says an action sports park can't be one of your community's most photogenic destinations?

Base Camp Action Sports Park at Cedar Park is a pretty great example of how recreation can become a tourism asset.

As the first hard-surface, all-wheel action sports park in the Pacific Northwest, Base Camp features a 20,000-square-foot concrete skatepark, a 20,000-square-foot Velosolutions asphalt pump track, and 1,200 linear feet of asphalt jump lines.

A good reminder that parks don't just serve communities. They can help put them on the map.

At Raccoon Creek Bike Park in Waynesville, NC, riders recently had the opportunity to compete in a Velosolutions UCI Pump Track World Championships Qualifier, with a chance to earn their spot at the World Championships in Beijing.

Think about that. A kid shows up at their local bike park, discovers a passion for riding, and suddenly the world feels a little bigger.
