With world ocean month around the corner let’s talk Marin debris’s…
KBA has spent over 15 years developing our stewardship program, organizing and supporting cleanup efforts throughout the community. Hawai’i accumulates large quantities of debris due to sitting just south of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, where ocean currents can carry floating debris thousands of miles across the ocean before it eventually washes ashore. Add trade winds, seasonal swell, and our island geography, and our coastlines can become collection points for everything from microplastics to abandoned fishing gear.

That’s why every cleanup matters 🤍 Even one bucket, one hour makes a difference. This photo was taken a couple years back when I guide. Tomo spotted some big fishing nets caught in the reef. Make sure to do your part and cleaning up not only your own trash, but any trash you see when you are enjoying the beautiful oceans here in Hawaii.
