Fall Classic Race Weekend Recap:
Tri-City Raceway RMEC and their staff really impressed our team this week! The show ran on time. The facility was sparkling clean when we arrived every day! Pretty incredible racing facility for sure. Thank you to everyone that helps manage & maintain that track. It's pretty incredible to see the turnaround that track has seen recently. Ya gotta go check it out! Thank you Northwest Super Late Model Series for their professionalism and dedication to racing throughout the NW.
FRIDAY PRACTICE
Our primary goal was to get Jason acclimated to the track. This track is a unique beast that required developing a few new techniques that were required to be fast. By the end of practice Jason was on the proper line, but we needed to find more speed and drivability.
SATURDAY PRO LATE MODEL 80
We had another day of practice to find more speed. So we went to work adjusting the spring package and tuning the setup around it. By the end of practice we had found more speed and Jason had developed a pretty consistent line. In qualifying we would set out fastest lap of the weekend so far, but we were still quite a bit off the new track record pace. We had already trimmed .8 of a second from our original lap times. For the feature we would start near the back, p15 of 18 I believe it was. Our goal was to treat this race like a practice session. These were Jason's first laps side by side with other cars but he did a good job and kept the car free from damage. With about 20 laps remaining the leaders were battling hard as they approached us. We decided to pull in to the pit area and avoid interfering with the finish of the race. Congratulations to Hailey Constance on her Pro Late Model victory!
SUNDAY FALL CLASSIC 200
We didn't have very much practice time available Sunday with the races set to start at 1p. We needed to be efficient in our approach and make a few good adjustments. We started with a new spring/bump combo on the RF and it was evident quickly the car/driver liked to new feel. We would make a couple adjustments to stick the rear of the car and prepare for qualifying.
In qualifying I noticed these crazy bastards were full throttle all the way to the bottom of turn 1... as Jason sat in line waiting his turn we would discuss the upcoming qualifying strategy... and I'm proud to report Jason pointed it to the bottom of turn 1 and called out to the racing gods with his Rev chip screaming wildly into turn 1. I watched intently wondering if I had just convinced my brother to drive full throttle to his demise... but the car turned and Jason jumped back in the gas! We overdrove turn 2 a bit, but Jason gave us our best lap of the weekend. We had gained .3 from our previous qualifying effort. Great job by everyone involved, especially the driver.
In the Main Event we would start near the back with the strategy of saving tires the entire first 100 laps to preserve the left side tires knowing the leftside tires needed to last all 200 laps. We went a lap down after battling for several laps side by side, thankfully we received the "Lucky Dog" shortly thereafter and stayed within reach of the field and we were in no longer in danger of falling a lap down.
At the halfway break we would change right-side tires and get to make adjustments. The car was a little loose, so we made a few adjustments and the car responded very well. Jason was able to begin working his way forward battling with many of the best drivers in the NW. With 21 laps to go running, contact between 2 cars would bring out the yellow flag, and when we accelerated to catch the green flag the engine would lock up... Jason did a great job of getting low to avoid getting run over. That would be the end of our 2026 Fall Classic. Congratulations to Evan Goetz on his win!
All in all we were proud of how our team stayed focused and continued to work hard to give Jason the best piece available. Over the weekend we trimmed about 1.3 seconds off of our lap times. By the end, we think we had a car/driver capable of driving up to about 7th place. We are satisfied with that understanding that the goal is always to try to win, but you gotta be realistic and take your small wins when they come.
