A Moment with Michael Wright. He is one of Wisconsin's favorite disc golfers and without question, the sport's most dedicated player. Last Sunday marked his streak of 4726 days in a row playing at least 18 holes of . Mike defines the hashtag . He is from Menomonee Falls and is married to fellow golfer, the lovely Jill Wright.

In this year's Northwoods Open he shot -19 for 54 holes, carding -13 on the Loon course and -6 on the Walleye, good for a 9th Place finish in the MPO Division. Great job, Mike!

If you don't know Melissa Pecunia, do yourself a favor and make her acquaintance next time you happen to see her along with husband/life partner Johnny Rumble. Mel lives in Germantown. She was a First Grade teacher for the bulk of her career. She retired in 2025 and has been able to join Johnny and the boys for the NWO for the last two years.

Any fan of this page has seen her photography, and this weekend she took the bulk of the awards ceremony photos. Thanks Mel! She also cooked, fed, and cleaned up after the crew staying in Casa de Los Cozzens, or what her family likes to refer to as "Cabin -1."

Mel and JR have been coming to Sandy Point since the last century. In 2006, they started bringing several families to our cabins and this year, she celebrated their good times with a commemorative book called "SPR Through the Years: 20 Years of Friendship; 20 Years of Lifelong Memories."

We love you, Mel.

Marcus Prue of Appleton came out on top by four strokes in the MP40 Division. He shot -24 for 54 holes and took a $900 payout. Pictured below, he gives new meaning to the term Belly Shirt.

Dustin Honold and Will Bratzel, both from
St. Paul, MN tied for Second Place, shooting -20 for the weekend. Dustin graciously agreed to take the Third Place trophy rather than have a playoff. They each took home $530.

It was none other than Captain John Pecunia aka Johnny Rumble from Germantown, who won the battle of MP50, and just after his 62nd birthday! This is JR's 10TH Northwoods Open Black Disc. According to Johnny, the first was in 2005 in the Masters Division. This weekend he shot -14 for 54 holes. He won $500. Johnny Rumble is a member of the Wisconsin Disc Golf Hall of Fame.

Kirk Keller from Madison took Second, shooting -12 ($340), and there was a tie for Third between Chad Inman and Craig Lokken, both from Madison. Regarding the beautiful Camille Cozzens-designed trophy, they said they'd "settle it up in Madison." Let us know how it turns out, fellas! They both shot -10 and earned $205 each.

We used to call them "Senior Grand Masters." As our sport has evolved, today they are the MP65 Division. And we've known all these gents for decades.

Winning the 1st Place trophy, Black Disc, and $300 was Don Hunkel, #4713, from Germantown. He and Pete Hoover of Mosinee and Off-the-Raft Ace fame, tied for First after a very close race in both rounds. On the Loon course (short) Hunkel shot -4 while Hoovie shot -5. Day two on the Walleye course (long baskets/short tee pads), Hunkel edged out Hoovie +5 to +6, for a first place tie. Hunkel won the playoff on Hole 25 Walleye. Second place payout was $165.

Brad Wendt of Columbus was not far behind with a +3 for the tournament, good enough for Third Place. Brad's wife, Karen Reads (Stories ~N~ Flight!), was on property filming this division for their YouTube channel, KarenandBradStoriesNFlight.

Both Brad and Hoovie are members of the Wisconsin Disc Golf Hall of Fame.

Happy Tuesday everyone. It suddenly feels like Fall here in the Northwoods. We begin today with a shout out to one of the kindest and funniest friends we have in the Northwoods .

For over a decade (19 years to be statistically correct), Dennis Squires of Rhinelander hangs out all weekend and wears the Money Man hat for this (pronounced PUD-ga -- not SPUR d'gur) 😉event. He keeps all the stats for 18 Divisions and manages the payouts. Dennis is indispensable to our operation and we couldn't manage without him. He is someone you may never see but we see him very clearly as he dutifully volunteers his time in front of the computer. A million thanks, ole friend.

Finally for this evening, here's to our Best Buddy, Jake, aka Gary A Jacobson. Year-after-year he makes the trip from the City of Big Shoulders to and helps us out with, well, everything. And he always brings the Beef!

After taking down the tee signs and the tents, and dealing with the endless chores surrounding this big event, on this Labor Day evening we took time to enjoy the Dream Life for a slow cruise on Amber Lake.

Thanks, Jake-O. We ❤️you.

Stay tuned. We'll get to the Pro Divisions tomorrow.
