At ✝️ Training this week we went over Ephesians 4:2. The theme was gentleness. I told the boys that gentleness is less about softness and more about using the appropriate force or having strength under control. The example I gave them was whispering from far away is too soft, but whispering up close is just right, while yelling up close is too loud yelling too far away it’s just right. We talked about the opposite of gentleness which are harshness and aggression and I told them that there are a time and place for those things, but gentleness should be our default setting. Most people assume working out improves their nutrient status. The opposite is true. Every muscle contraction burns through magnesium and calcium simultaneously. The harder you train the faster the depletion happens. And most athletes are running on an empty mineral tank without knowing it.

Every muscle contraction runs on a hidden partnership. Calcium triggers the contraction. Magnesium triggers the relaxation. One pulls the weight up. The other brings it back down. Without calcium muscles cannot contract. Without magnesium they cannot relax. Every rep runs this cycle thousands of times per session.

Tight muscles that never release. Random cramps. Poor recovery. Sleep that does not restore. Mid-workout fatigue that arrives too early. These are not signs of overtraining. They are the predictable symptoms of muscles trying to function without the minerals that power them.

Magnesium is required for ATP production — the energy currency that powers every contraction. When it is depleted every lift feels harder every run feels slower and recovery takes longer. No amount of protein or rest compensates because the energy system itself is running below capacity.

Most athletes trying to break through a plateau are not undertrained. They are undermineralised.

200 to 400 milligrams of magnesium glycinate before sleep. Calcium from whole food sources every training day. Most people notice smoother lifts faster recovery and significantly better sleep within one to two weeks.

Save this and share it with someone who trains hard and cannot understand why their recovery sleep and performance never quite feel right.
