MARAUDER FOOTBALL NATION:
My association with Antelope Valley College Football dates back to the first quarter of 1990. Since then I served as an assistant coach for a total of 28 years. For the past eleven years I have been an administrator of this page. That time has come to an end as I have decided to step away as a page administrartor. Various other sources can be accessed for information regarding AVC Football.
My whole intent of postings has been to promote the program and inform goings on to those interested. It has been an honor! Countless hours have been volunteered on my part to this page. Clearly I am not a professional, but I did my best. This old school guy will step away with no regrets.
Thank you to all those who appreciated what I contributed to this page. I will continue to support the program in different ways now.
Once a Marauder…ALWAYS a Marauder!!!

MARAUDER FOOTBALL NATION:
I’m no longer part of AVC but I have much gratitude for all it has done for me, my wife and our family. I was taken in as an “outsider” back in the Spring of 1990 and quickly felt welcomed. All told I was an assistant coach for 28 years and it’s an opportunity I’m gratefult to have had.
I have so many cherished memories, involving so many of you, that will be treasured forever. Many thanks to you all! I am better because of you.
To those whose contact we share just through this page, I offer gratitude for your patience in my sometimes inadequate attempts to support the program by posting on this page. Thank you for your interest and support of AVC Marauder Football!!!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

MARAUDER FOOTBALL NATION:
On the day before the Marauders participate in their first bowl game since 2016, it’s time to give props to the part of the team that oftentimes gets too much blame and not enough credit…the AVC Offensive Line!
In a circle of life moment, I have history and many positive memories with the men who now coach the AVC OL…the Clemons Crew! I must be afforded some leeway here as I am one of their biggest fans and supporters…and a bit biased in my opinion of their great coaching and high moral character.
“Big” Randy (far right) graduated from Quartz Hill High School, where he was a highly regarded offensive lineman. He continued to excel on the offensive line at AVC for two years before signing with Utah State University. Eventually football issued the call and Randy entered the coaching ranks. Now he’s living a dream! He was able to coach these two sons of his and now he is coaching with them! Pinch him…he must be dreaming!
“Little” Randy (middle) was a standout tight end in high school and moved on to college at the same position. He mentors the AVC tight end group. Julian (far left) was also a standout in high school. He excelled on the offensive line and, like his brother, moved on with a college scholarship. Julian assists his father with the OL.
Last season the Clemons Crew coached at Quartz Hill High School, all three’s alma mater, and helped lead the team deep into the playoffs. This is their first season coaching at the college level and they have shown that they are more than up to the challenge as they’ve helped the team to a 9-1 regular season record. The team has averaged nearly 50 points a game in the nine games that were played! (There was one win by forfeit.) Needless to say, the offensive line has been a big part of the team’s success.
The Marauder OL is definitely in good hands! (That’s a fact…not just my personal bias because I coached all three of them and coached with Big Randy.)
GO MARAUDERS!!!

MARAUDER FOOTBALL NATION:
By invitation, I was able to attend the AVC football practice last evening for their upcoming bowl game.
Way back in the day I was part of the coaching staff when Russell Gordon played defensive back and punter for the Marauders. He later entered the coaching ranks, experiencing success all along the way, and is now the Head Coach at AVC. Previously he not only donned the maroon & silver as a player, he also spent time as an assistant coach. This is his first year at the helm of the football program. What he, his players, and his staff have accomplished in 2025 is nothing short of historical.
The 2025 squad finished their regular season with an overall record of 9-1. That matches the best season for a head coach at AVC in his first season, equaling the first season of his predecessor Perry Jehlicka. (That squad won the last now defunct Foothill Conference title, then lost in the opening round of the playoffs.). Not only that, Russ heads a team that also equaled the biggest turnaround in the program’s long and storied history…again matching his predecessor.
The 2025 season has definitely been one for the ages as the team has produced one of the best records in the history of AVC Football. A win in Saturday’s bowl game at Brent Carder Marauder Stadium, against San Bernardino Valley College, would match the school’s best overall record of 10-1, which was set by the 1974 team that won the State Championship.
Russ not only leads the program into the present and future, he appreciates the history of the program…thus he offered the invitation to attend practice for one (sporting some fine headware) who once was a longtime assistant coach for the maroon & silver.
Congratulations to Coach Gordon and his entire program for a successful season! AVC Maruader Foortball remains a…Proud Community Tradition.
GO MARAUDERS!!!

MARAUDER FOOTBALL NATION:
Now going by “Tyrus”, George Murdoch has done quite well for himself in the entertainment industry. Along with other projects, he recently launched a podcast titled “Planet Tyrus”. In his latest episode he took time for a conversation with his position coach while he donned the maroon & silver back in 1991 & 1992.
All these years later the Marauders march on! Next Saturday the 2025 squad (9-1) will take on San Bernardino (7-3) in the Western States Bowl.

MARAUDER FOOTBALL NATION:
I’ve shared that this gentleman, who is of celebrity status, has some roots in the AV. He graduated from Quartz Hill High School, after which he attended Antelope Valley College and played football for the Marauders. That is where our paths first crossed. I was his position coach.
Along with all that he’s involved with now, I share that Tyrus has a recently launched podcast. Good stuff. In one particular episode he reflects on his time at AVC.
We celebrate all of the accomplishments by thise who once donned the maroon & silver!
