I wish these events were around when i was competing. Many fighters will never feel completely prepared. If a coach coddles a student out of caution, they risk cultivating paralysis by analysis. Thats why I love these events, it gives beginners a chance to break the ice.
Sometimes, surviving an early, brutal baptism by fire strips away the illusion of combat. It forces an athlete to realize that fear is manageable, that getting hurt is survivable, and that they possess a reservoir of grit they didn't know existed.
Regional promotions are the laboratory. If an athlete only ever faces hand-picked, perfectly curated opponents in the gym, they enter competitive environments with a fragile confidence that shatters the moment adversity hits.
A great coach cannot be a blind "yes-man" to promoters, sacrificing bodies for leverage. Nor can they wrap their fighters in cotton wool, denying them the crucible necessary to forge true skill.
