Read that again.

I’ve had this conversation a couple of times today with kids getting ready for high school rodeo this weekend:

𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙖𝙣𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙘𝙞𝙧𝙘𝙡𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙖 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙧𝙪𝙣.

If the gate is a center gate, you have to keep forward motion toward the first barrel or pole.

The NHSRA rule actually says:
“The contestant is allowed a running start. If the gate is centrally located, contestant must keep forward motion toward the first barrel/pole. If a side or corner gate is used, a single spin or pivot is acceptable in either direction or by the Arena Director’s approval. Failure to comply will be a no time. Contestant must be mounted when entering the arena.”

Lincoln has a center gate.

So yes, circling before your run will be a no-time.

And that is just 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙧𝙪𝙡𝙚.

Every association has its own rule book. There are plenty of little things that can turn a perfectly good run into a no-time if you don’t know the rules.

“I didn’t know” doesn’t change the rule.

2027 NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL FINALS RODEO UPDATE

The National High School Rodeo Association is excited to announce a change to the 2027 National High School Finals Rodeo.

After careful consideration between the Sandhills Global Event Center and the NHSRA, we have made the decision to move the 2027 NHSFR to a new location and date and we believe this is the best move for our members and our association.

📍 Cam-Plex Event Center | Gillette, Wyoming
📅 July 11–17, 2027

We’re looking forward to bringing the NHSFR experience back to Gillette and creating an incredible week for our members, their families, and the entire rodeo community.
