Committees organize and manage a full schedule of yachting, educational, social and public-outreach programs, and the Club is recognized throughout the worldwide yachting community for its hospitality. Long Beach Yacht Club youth programs are strong and widely popular, focused primarily on swimming, sailing, surfing and — most importantly — fun. Parents and Club staff ensure there is a healthy mix of education, training and social activities. This October, LBYC is weaving a web of kindness to benefit our local senior center. You can help make a difference by stopping by the front desk and choosing a wish from our Giving Web, purchasing the requested item, and returning the unwrapped donation to the front desk by October 31. Items include socks, beanies, lap blankets, and more. Every little act of kindness helps make someone’s day.

Congratulations to LBYC member Art Melendres for winning the 2026 Cal 25 North American Championship! The event was held on September 18-20 and hosted by Eastport Yacht Club in Annapolis, Maryland. Three days of racing presented everything from very light breeze to over 20 knots, giving competitors the full range of sailable conditions throughout the weekend.

Team "One More Time," led by Art Melendres and his son Scott, trailered their fully restored Cal 25 hull number 1 over 2,700 miles to compete in the event. Melendres took top honors with a total of only 15 points over eight races, edging out second place by four points. They put up four race wins and never finished outside the top four in a fleet of 11 boats. Although this is not his first time atop the national podium, this win is special to Melendres because he went into the event knowing it would be his last. Plus, the regatta happened to take place during his 86th birthday!

"I'll keep racing until I can't do it anymore, but competing on the other side of the country is a lot at 86 years old," said Melendres. "I thought I was done last year, but Scott and the crew convinced me to go One More Time and I'm glad I did. This one was very rewarding."

2026 Cruisers Cruise South!

Five boats, 14 crew members and an unforgettable journey from Alamitos Bay to Dana Point, Mission Bay and San Diego Yacht Club.

From sea lions and Swift Boats to great dinners, historic ships and plenty of time on the water, it was the perfect finale to our 2026 cruising season.

Long Beach Yacht Club is set to host the 2026 Butler Cup on September 26-27. Named in honor of the late Frank Butler, who founded Catalina Yachts and built our fleet of eleven Catalina 37s, this year the event will feature two up-and-coming teams representing LBYC! Best of luck to Marissa Cascio-Mee and her team Parrot Fever, along with Spencer Flynn with Flynn Racing. New this year, the winner of the Butler Cup will receive an invitation to the 2027 Ficker Cup next April, giving our local talent a shot at the big stage. Best of luck to Marissa and Spencer!

After a four-month hiatus during the summer, Saturday Soling Regattas resume this weekend! By popular demand, racing will take place in the bay with no spinnakers. Come out for some casual sailing on the bay with your fellow members! We currently have three boats available first come, first served. Check out the notice board at lbyc.org for more info!

A sparkling day on the water for LBYC skipper Lena!

Lena and her crew are continuing to battle it out at the inaugural New York Yacht Club Women’s International Championship in Newport, RI. After two days of racing, they’re holding strong in the middle of a highly competitive 20-boat fleet.
