Stop skipping your back extensions! 🚨

If you want a bulletproof lower back, a stronger deadlift, and better posture, the back extension belongs in your weekly routine. It directly targets your posterior chain—specifically your hamstrings, glutes, and erector spinae—building deep muscular endurance where most people are weakest.

Want to take the strength benefits to the next level? Combine it with a kettlebell swing. 🏋️‍♂️

By adding explosive kettlebell swings right after or integrated with your hinge training, you train your posterior chain to handle both heavy, controlled tension and dynamic, explosive power.

Why This Combo Rules

Bulletproofs Your Lower Back: Forges an iron posterior chain that protects your spine.

Boosts Athletic Power: Combines the strict strength of the extension with the explosive hip drive of the swing.

Improves Hinge Mechanics: Perfects your hip hinge, which transfers directly to heavier deadlifts and squats.

How to Program It

The Routine: 3 sets × 10–12 controlled back extensions, immediately followed by 15 explosive kettlebell swings.

Effort Target: Keep 2 reps in reserve (2 RIR) on the extensions; make the swings fast and snappy.

Rest Interval: Rest 90 seconds between sets.

Drop a 🦍 if you’re adding this to your next leg or back day!

Want to build explosive, unguardable basketball athleticism? Bring out the hurdles. 🏀🚀

Using hurdles on layups completely changes how players approach finishing at the rim. Instead of just floating up a shot, it forces them to generate maximum ground force and power to clear the obstacle while maintaining complete body control in the air.

Here is why this drill is a game-changer for hoops performance:

Forces True Explosiveness: Players can't cheat the jump. They must drive their knees up and produce serious power to clear the hurdle and finish the play.

Dynamic Footwork Adaptation: By constantly changing the hurdle’s distance from the rim, you force players to adjust on the fly.

Context-Dependent Takeoffs: Depending on the pace of their drive, they have to instantly calculate whether to launch off the left foot or the right foot.

Stop practicing static, predictable layups. Teach your players how to solve spatial problems at full speed.

How New Things Begin

10/30/2026

What you put up must come down—but how you come down dictates how long you stay in the game 💥

Everyone loves training the takeoff especially on VertiMax but the landing is where the real damage happens if you aren't careful. When you jump off one foot, your body generates massive vertical momentum. If you land with a narrow, stiff base, that impact force multiplies right into your joints and ligaments 🛑

The secret to safe, powerful one-foot mechanics? Widening your landing base.

By dropping into a wider, stacked foundation upon impact, you allow your major muscle groups—especially your quads and glutes—to absorb the brunt of the force. Think of your muscles as natural shock absorbers. A wide base keeps your knees from caving inward (knee valgus) and protects your ACL from non-contact stress.

💡 Key Mechanics to Lock In
:
1️⃣ Wide Base: Land with your feet roughly shoulder-width apart to distribute the weight evenly.

2️⃣ Hips Back: Don’t stay completely upright. Drive your hips back and hinge slightly forward to load the posterior chain.

3️⃣ Stacked Joints: Keep your knees tracking directly over your mid-foot, never letting them cave inward.

4️⃣ Own the Ground: Melt into the floor rather than fighting it, letting the quads take the heat.
If you want to jump higher tomorrow, you have to protect your joints today. Drop a 🦾 below if you're adding landing mechanics to your next training session!

Gear change.

In the half-court, playing at one speed makes you an easy read for the defense. When you control your pace, use a solid screen to create an angle, and sell a violent ball fake to get the defender off their feet, the game slows down.

• The Setup: Glide slow into the screen, let your teammate do the work, and read the drop or the switch.

• The Shift: Explode out of the change of pace once the defender hesitates.

• The Finish: A convincing shot fake freezes the contest, buying you clean space to pull up or get to the rack.

Stop rushing. Read the floor. Make them play at your speed.

"If you can’t finish with a body on you, you can't finish in the game." 😤👇

callen matoush

Let’s be real: nobody is giving you an open lane when it matters. In an empty gym, every layup looks clean. But under the lights? You’re going to get bumped, slapped, and contested.

If you aren't training to finish through contact, you’re training for a game that doesn't exist.

Here is why contact finishing needs to be a staple in your bag:

Absorb the Bump: True scorers don't shy away from the hit. They embrace it, maintain their balance, and stay on line.

Control the Ball: Ball security is everything. Heavy contact requires a strong grip and the ability to protect the rock until the release.

Eyes on the Target: The best finishers keep their eyes locked on the rim, no matter how hard they get hit in the paint.

Get the And-1: Soft layups get blocked or missed. Strong finishes turn into three-point plays that swing game momentum.

How to fix it in your workouts:
Stop dodging the defense. Grab a partner with a pad, use heavy balls, or have someone bump you mid-air during your finishing drills. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable.

🎾 TRAIN YOUR BRAIN. SHARPEN YOUR VISION. ELEVATE YOUR GAME. 🧠👀

Sometimes, the simplest drills create some of the biggest challenges for an athlete’s nervous system!

Throwing a tennis ball against a wall and catching it overhand may look simple, but it challenges multiple systems working together to help athletes perform at a high level.

🔥 Here’s what this drill can train:

🧠 NEUROLOGICAL PROCESSING
Track the ball, predict its trajectory, process sensory information, and coordinate a timely response. This challenges hand-eye coordination, reaction speed, and the brain’s ability to adapt to changing information.

👀 VISUAL TRACKING & EYE-HAND COORDINATION
Follow the ball through space, judge its speed and direction, and coordinate your hand to meet it. These skills are important for reacting to fast-moving objects in sport.

🔄 CROSS-BODY COORDINATION
Alternate catching with the right and left hands. This challenges bilateral coordination, motor planning, and the ability to perform a task with either side of the body.

🙈 REDUCE VISUAL INPUT
Try the drill with an eye patch over one eye, using a slow, controlled toss. This changes the visual information available and challenges adaptation to reduced binocular vision. Only do this in a safe, controlled setting, as depth perception may be affected.

🦵 ADD BALANCE & STABILITY
Stand on one foot while tossing and catching. Now you’re challenging postural control, balance, and the coordination of upper- and lower-body movement at the same time.

🎯 MAKE IT MORE CHALLENGING
✅ Start with your dominant hand.
✅ Alternate hands with each catch.
✅ Switch your stance or catching pattern.
✅ Progress to single-leg balance.
✅ Introduce the eye-patch variation only when safe and appropriate.

THE GOAL: Challenge the athlete to see, process, coordinate, and react—not just move.

The key is quality over speed. Start simple, maintain control, and progress as coordination improves.

💡 Remember: These drills challenge visual-motor coordination, balance, and sensory processing. They can complement sport-specific training, but they don’t automatically improve eyesight or guarantee fast

I don't yell, I speak at VOLUME! 🤣😭🤣😭

📢 CONSTRUCTIVE YELLING IS PART OF COACHING! 🏀🔥

Let’s talk about something that gets misunderstood in today’s game: VOLUME, ENERGY, and URGENCY!!!!

There’s a difference between yelling AT a player and yelling TO a player to elevate their performance.

When a coach raises their voice with PURPOSE, POSITIVITY, and PASSION, it can ignite something in an athlete. It can wake them up, sharpen their focus, demand accountability, and push them to compete at a higher level.

🏀 “TALK! COMMUNICATE! MOVE YOUR FEET! FINISH THE PLAY! NEXT PLAY!”

That’s not disrespect. That’s instruction. That’s urgency. That’s coaching!

Too often, we see young players who are quiet on the court, hesitant to communicate, slow to react, or waiting for someone else to set the tone. Sometimes, they need a coach who brings the energy, demands their attention, and challenges them to respond.

YOU CAN’T ALWAYS COACH AT A WHISPER AND EXPECT GAME-TIME INTENSITY!

Practices and training sessions should prepare players for the speed, pressure, physicality, and communication required in real competition. Sometimes, that means turning up the volume to raise the standard.

But let’s be clear: CONSTRUCTIVE YELLING IS NOT BELITTLING, HUMILIATING, OR BREAKING A PLAYER DOWN. It’s about correcting mistakes, demanding effort, reinforcing habits, and building confidence through accountability.

The goal isn’t to make players fear their coach. The goal is to help them trust the message, embrace the challenge, and learn how to respond under pressure.

A great coach knows when to encourage, when to correct, when to challenge, and when to turn up the intensity.

THE VOICE SETS THE TONE. THE ENERGY SETS THE STANDARD. THE PLAYERS’ RESPONSE BUILDS THE CULTURE. 💯

Coaches, don’t be afraid to bring the ENERGY. Bring the PASSION. Bring the VOLUME when the moment calls for it!

Just make sure every word has a PURPOSE and every challenge is meant to help the player GROW. 🏀💪

🏀 PASSING IS A SKILL THAT CAN KEEP YOU ON THE COURT! 💯

As players advance, the game gets faster, defenders get bigger, stronger, and more athletic. Being able to make the right pass against that kind of pressure can be the difference between being on the court during CRUNCH TIME or watching from the sideline. ⏱️

That’s why passing MUST be a major part of your basketball training drills! 🔑

🔥 THE BOUNCE PASS IS A MAJOR KEY! 🔑

Every pass doesn’t have to be in the air! Learning when and how to use the bounce pass can help you get the ball around bigger defenders, protect the passing lane, and deliver the ball to your teammate where they can make a play.

✅ Work on chest passes
✅ Master the bounce pass
✅ Practice passing under pressure
✅ Read the defender and make the right decision
✅ Develop the confidence to deliver when the game is on the line

DON’T JUST TRAIN TO MAKE PASSES IN PRACTICE. TRAIN TO MAKE THE RIGHT PASS WHEN IT MATTERS MOST! 💪🏽🏀

Remember: Great players make plays. Great teammates make everyone better! 🤝

🏀 MASTER THE TWO-FOOT STOP. FINISH THE LAYUP.

The little details make a BIG difference! 💯

Teaching young players how to come to a balanced two-foot stop in the paint is a skill that pays off for years to come.

✅ Balance & Body Control — Learn to stop under control, stay on balance, and protect the basketball.

✅ Strong Finishes — Develop the ability to gather, go up strong, and finish through contact.

✅ Better Decision-Making — Learn to stop, read the defense, and make the right play instead of rushing into traffic.

✅ Build Good Habits Early — Footwork, balance, and finishing fundamentals become the foundation for success as the game gets faster and more physical.

We can't skip the fundamentals and expect great results. Teach it young, rep it consistently, and build confidence one finish at a time! 🔥

CONTROL THE STOP. OWN THE PAINT. FINISH STRONG. 💪🏀
