If you’ve watched any of the pre-round coverage this week, you probably saw a few of our Putting Mirrors on the practice green.
They’re everywhere on the Tour, and there’s a good reason for that…
Try this:
Sit up straight and point at a spot across the room.
Feel free to close one eye if you need to.
Now shift your head left and right, keeping your finger still.
See that?
Your finger didn’t move, but it looks like it did.
Your perception shifts with your eye position.
That’s what happens over a putt, too.
If your eyes are too far inside the ball? It will look like you are aimed to the right of where you are actually aimed.
Too far over the ball? It will look like you’re aimed left - and you’ll compensate.
That’s why it’s so common to squat behind a putt, pick a line, feel 100% confident…
Then stand over it and it suddenly looks wrong.
It’s not the line, it’s your perspective.
Tour players know how important this is, so they train for it with a putting mirror:
Eyes in the right place. Square shoulders. Square putter face.
You can train for it, too.
It doesn’t take a lot. Just a few minutes a day feeling the proper setup position.
You’ll be amazed at the difference it makes in your putting.
