TCTC Board member Mike Tutolo and I attended the Pennsylvania Fly Fishing Museum Banquet and open house last weekend. PA Fly Fishing Museum president, Bill Skilton introduced the banquet speaker, Barry Beck, who told stories of his adventures with many of the anglers featured in the museum including Vince Marinaro and Lefty Kreh. On Sunday, the open house featured fly rod casting demonstrations by Scott Loughner and fiberglass rods built by Mike McFarland and bamboo rods by Tom Smithwick. The displays in the museum displays included anglers who have been past guests of TCTC, including Chuck Furimsky, Charlie Meck and of course, the legendary Joe Humphreys. Joe was there for the open house and I have met him several times before, but I was still excited to talk with him again and get a photo taken. I also got a photo with Bill Skilton, whose dedication and hard work have helped to make the museum a success. I recommend anyone interested in fly fishing make the trip to Carlisle, PA and visit the Pennsylvania Fly Fishing Museum. - TCTC President Steve Hegedus

Saturday, October 24th Tom Ference will be putting on a fly casting seminar at Lower Burrell's Fall Festival. Tom was an original owner of Pittsburgh's premier fly shop - International Angler. He says he should have plenty of time to answer casting questions and provide hands-on help for beginners to advanced fly casters. Tom helped teach fly casting classes with Lefty Kreh for many years, so he has learned from some of the very best. There is no charge to attend the festival and it sounds like there should be a little something for everyone. TCTC members who helped out at this summers' Vandergrift YouthFest should recall that Tom was there to help us teaching the kids to fly cast. So we encourage TCTC members to show up and say hello to Tom and pick up some tips! The event is from 11am - 4pm at Kotecki Memorial Park 700 Wildlife Lodge Rd, Lower Burrell, PA 15068.

October TCTC Meeting Tonight!

Our guest for tonight's October 14 TCTC meeting will be Michael Kensinger, wildlife illustrator and outdoor writer from Altoona, Pennsylvania, whose “Casts & Reflections” column appears in Pennsylvania Angler & Boater magazine. His program is “Inspired by the Wild: A Life of Writing, Art, and Observation,” Micheal will share how his creative pursuits have shaped his life and deepened his connection to nature and community. Through stories and illustrations, he explores how anyone who spends time along a trout stream can turn personal experiences into stories that inspire a new generation of conservationists and outdoor communicators. He will have prints of his work available for purchase.

Everyone is welcome - not just TCTC Members. Non-member admission is just $3.

If you can come early, we need some help with setup tonight. If you can, please arrive around 6:30 - 6:45 to assist with setup

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and U.S. Forest Service have formally proposed rescinding the 2001 Roadless Rule, which currently restricts road construction and certain forest management activities across more than 44 million acres of National Forest System lands.

Team USA (the senior team, not the kids) kicked some butt on home water!

Team USA won the 2026 FIPS-Mouche World Fly Fishing Championship while Michael Bradley claimed individual gold in a dominant home-water performance.

Brad has been guiding on the Savage and Potomac Rivers in Western Maryland since 2018, developing an intimate knowledge of the rivers, their trout, and the techniques that consistently produce memorable days on the water.
