What an unforgettable day for Wind in the Pines Kung Fu! 🌲🥊🥋

Today was what martial arts is really about: we won some, we lost some, and every single one of us stepped away having grown as martial artists.

Our demo team kicked things off by bringing the house down for an incredible crowd at the Texas State Forest Festival—showcasing traditional empty-hand forms, classical sword work, real-world self-defense, and explosive board breaking.

Then came tournament time! Our Kung Fu students put their hearts and fists on the line, and every single competitor walked away with a medal around their neck. The poise, structure, and focus these kids and adults displayed was inspiring.

Later tonight in the GOV boxing tournament, we had our own step straight between the ropes. It was an absolute toe-to-toe, razor-thin war from the opening bell to the final second. Stepping into that ring takes serious guts. The grit, class, and heart shown in that bout made the whole school proud.

That’s what this journey is all about. You test your limits, you back up your teammates, you learn the lessons, and you walk out with your head held high (and maybe an ice pack ready). 😉

A massive thank you to all the parents, families, and friends who packed the sidelines and made some serious noise for our kung fu family today.

Wednesday night at Wind in the Pines Kung Fu. Starting at 6pm we have instructor led cardio kickboxing for adults and sparring training for youth. At 7pm we have youth groundfighting and open cardio kickboxing gym. Come by, get in shape, meet some great people, and learn to defend yourself.

"Do you teach jujutsu?"

We get this question from parents all the time.

Do we teach sport jujutsu meant for tournament points? No.

Do we teach real-world groundfighting designed to keep your child safe, protect them from harm, and help them get back on their feet? Absolutely, yes.

Self-defense doesn't happen on a scoreboard, and real encounters aren't limited to a single range. At Wind in the Pines Kung Fu, there isn't an environment we don't prepare for—we strike, we kick, we throw, we grapple, and we fight on the ground. We give our students the complete toolkit: the awareness to avoid trouble, the skills to handle it if it goes hands-on, and the ability to survive and escape if it hits the pavement.
