Over the last two decades, hitting has changed.
From 2005–2015, the traditional approach emphasized putting the ball in play, line drives, hitting for average, and moving runners. “ The old school approach” Launch angle wasn’t a major part of everyday hitting instruction.
Then the goal shifted from simply making contact to making the best possible contact.
Hitters began training to create more optimal launch angles while maximizing exit velocity. This resulted in home runs increasing dramatically, while batting average and on-base percentage declining.
The modern hitter has more information than ever before. The challenge is figuring out how to use that information without sacrificing the fundamentals of hitting.
