People ask at what age did you start teaching your kids hula? The answer is as soon as they are able. Our youngest would often sit on the side and watch. Watching is learning. Then as she gained the courage to try, she now dances as a preschool age student and we enjoy dancing hula as a family.
The traditional Hawaiian 'ōlelo no'eau (proverb): "Nānā ka maka; ho'olohe ka pepeiao; pa'a ka waha" means "Observe with the eyes, listen with the ears, shut the mouth." In school in Hawai'i, this is what we are taught to learn and be respectful to our kūpuna as they taught.
Today we were invited to share our Hawaiian culture at Sunrise Preschool. It was so fun to see the younger keiki in our community excited to dance and learn about Hawaiian Culture. Mahalo for allowing us to share our Spirit of Aloha with a bright generation of keiki!

Mahalo Queen Creek for allowing us to come and share about Ki'i Pōhaku and how petroglyphs and hula dancing tell stories. We had some amazing teenage artists participate and are grateful to share our cultural stories and legends!
It was also wonderful to be reunited with a previous student who danced with our Learn With Aloha 'ohana a couple years ago! It was so fun to talk story and catch up with their 'ohana!

We were blessed to be invited to Prescott and teach about lei making and Hawaiian Petroglyphs. Prescott is a beautiful area where we enjoyed their forests and learned that some local hikes have petroglyphs! Mahalo to the community and participation as each of them took home their hand made lei and Hawaiian Petroglyph Coaster.
