While the number of serious crimes - defined as murder, r**e, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny and motor vehicle theft - has been rising, Chief Trainor noted that the totals are still about 13 percent below the city’s peak crime levels in 1981. And he said there were some indications that the rise might be ending.
