2 Day Tap Intensive June 29th & 30th 7-9pm $50 both days Dussich Dance Studio
EVERYONE SHOULD LEARN TO TAP!!
1. Everyone can do it! Whether you are a young child starting dance lessons or an adult who has always wanted to try… there is a class & a level for you. Many famous tappers today are men who make tap dance look decidedly masculine. Check out Savion Glover or the hit show “Tap Dogs”. Tap is for every fitness level & skill level.
2.Tap dance makes noise! Whether you are 5 or 95, everyone loves a little noise now & then. Tap can be a uniquely satisfying physical & emotional release because it produces sound. Tap is therapeutic for teens, adults, seniors as well as children.
3.Tap makes you smarter. Tap dancing consists of learning rhythm patterns. Learning & memorizing patterns is a workout for the brain. Repeating, reversing & counting rhythm patterns help math concepts that younger students learn in school. Adults & Seniors-we all know mental exercise promotes healthy brain activity & helps ward off Alzheimer’s.
4.Tap is a great workout. Learn a few basic patterns & you are off to a great cardio workout. Tap gets the heart rate up & is more enjoyable than a jog. It tones major muscle groups in legs & core. A Fun way to stay in shape.
5.Tap works the core for balance. Learn where body’s weight should be & when to shift weight one foot to the other for proper tap technique. One of the first things you learn in tap class is proper weight placement over balls of feet with soft knees & engaged core.
Training muscle memory this way improves balance, coordination & control. Benefits are strong core & less back pain & risk of falling.
6.Tap is steeped in history. American masters Leonard Reed & Bill Robinson shaped tap to what it is today. Tap is an oral & demonstrated tradition with skills, steps and choreography passed through generations. It motivates & inspires students.
7.TAP is the ONLY dance you can HEAR. Learning to tap is learning to play an instrument. Rhythm patterns & clear sounds make tap intriguing to the ear. Add upper body movement & traveling & you’ve got a feast for the senses. The audience can not only enjoy visual creativity of the performance, but also rhythm patterns over the chosen music… or even tap dancing making the music by itself. It is a new dimension to art of dance.
8.Tap is portable. Many dance genres would need open space to perform. Tap fits on street corners, dance halls, etc. Tap can be practiced anywhere. You don’t need tap shoes to do it! Aisles of food store are great for traveling steps. Bathroom floor is a great space while brushing teeth, front of the copier at work. Under your desk (quietly) is a great place to practice patterns… any place the feet have a bit of room to move. It’s contagious!
9.Tap is a very social art form. Thru history of tap, performers gather for competition, tap offs &“conversations” through sound. Tap has been used in African & Irish cultures to communicate without words. American tap is unique blend of African &Irish roots met & merged in early 20th century in casual settings, street corners & Vaudeville stage.
10.Every one loves to watch a tap dance. Tap dance is a crowd pleaser every time! I’ve never seen a somber audience during a tap performance…or a somber performer for that matter. Senior citizens & children of all ages love to watch or participate in tap dance.
