Your altimeter says you’re safe. You’re not 😬
It doesn’t measure height. It measures pressure, and that’s where the traps are.

🕰️ Changing setting? Picture the hands ⬆️ Higher setting: wind UP ⬇️ Lower setting: wind DOWN 📏 How far? hPa change × 30 ft (only use 27 if the question says so)

⚠️ High to low, or warm to cold: look out below FL180 over Mont Blanc, QNH 983, ISA −25°C… you’d hit the slope 482 ft below the summit.

In a move described as “long overdue”, Andy
Burnham has announced plans to eliminate magnetic variation trom UK Aviation, because there’s “Only one North”.

The proposal follows years of complaints from student pilots who spend months learning” HRA variation, only to immediately let SkyDemon do the calculation for them.

“Every year thousands of navigation students and pilots ask whether they should add or subtract variation” said Burnham.

“We believe the answer should be neither and I’m determined to make real changes for real benefit of the people”.

The .caa estimate the reform will remove 73% of all whiteboard drawings involving arrows and meridians and has been welcomed by PPL instructors across the country as “beyond their wildest dreams”.
