Handstand Walking…in a workout? Huh? What are you trying to prove?
It is both easy and natural to look at this and think it’s over the top. Before the statement is made, however, I wonder if the right questions were asked….
•What goes into a handstand walk?
•Is mobility important to execute it?
•What about stability?
•Does it require a blend of core and upper body strength?
•Can it enhance and display fitness?
•Are there progressions and scaling options?
Nick Ghalam could not do these when he started and he probably had zero desire if we are being real. But, the same could be said for anyone who ever started any fitness endeavor when the initially looked at what the human body is capable of.
That’s the funny and ironic thing about a skill such as handstand walks. You don’t need them to be fit. But there’s something about exploring what your body is capable of. If you remain curious (like Nick) you’ll eventually achieve something you never could before. Without realizing you’ve been doing that since you were born.
And that’s really cool. And it has added an element to his fitness that has carry over to countless core, body awareness, and stamina gains very few things can match.
So yes. Handstand walks in a workout.
