What is Yoga Nidra?
In this practice, you find a comfortable position for your body to be calm, awake, aware, and as still as possible 😉
and then simply follow the gentle instructions you are given, using your inner mental awareness.
You will not be asked to physically move.
On the surface Yoga Nidra resembles a Guided Meditation, but it's far more than that.

⭐️Last Call for our New Workshop!⭐️

Join us on August 2nd at 4pm for our first Crystal Wrapping Workshop!

In this class you will learn how to wrap your own piece of Selenite, how to use this particular crystal as a part of your meditation practice, understand its properties (both physical and metaphysical), and how to care for your crystal so you can keep it for years to come.

A little lore?

Selenite gets its name from the Greek Goddess Selene, Goddess of the Moon. Early mineralogist saw this crystal and decided that it looked like ths soft glow of the moon. What better way to celebrate the moon than by holding a stone that looks as if you are holding a piece in your hand?

🪑Let’s talk about Chair Yoga!🪑

There is a misconception that Chair yoga is only for seniors, those with mobility issues, or people recovering from injury. While it is helpful for people who may have limitations of any kind, it is also for people who enjoy a challenge or fall somewhere in between. In other words, Chair Yoga is for everyone.

Your yoga practice, whether with a chair or not, is what you make of it. You can make a flow class as easy or hard as you want based on the modifications you take.

Chair is no different.

As much as you can be mindful in your chair practice to relieve stress or to create a low impact practice, you can just as easily move so that you build strength and advance your practice by using muscles you don’t typically use.

The benefit of taking a yoga class with certified teachers in a studio is working with them to get the most out of your practice. Tell them what you’re looking for in your practice. Tell them what is going on with you. If you have something physically limiting you whether it chronic or not, your yoga instructor can make provisions to help you get the best from your chosen class. That is literally what we are here for.

When you walk into your chair class, be open with your instructor. Tell them what your goals are and what it is you’re hoping to gain from your practice. Your practice is personal and your teacher wants to make sure that you leave feeling like you did exactly what it was your body needed in that moment on that day.

Chair yoga is a practice that is often slept on for one reason or another, but the pictures below show its versatility.

We are lucky to have Jayne as our instructor and she’s here for you every Friday morning at 9am. If you’ve been curious about this class, but unsure what to expect, now is the perfect time to dip your toes in. Let her experience guide you to your perfect practice.

Day: Friday

🥰
Enjoy the read, and tell us whether or not you knew this already, about this pose. 🕉
❤️Utkatasana translates from Sanskrit to "fierce pose," "powerful pose," or "intense posture."
🧡B.K.S. Iyengar’s primary and most influential teacher, Tirumalai Krishnamacharya, reimagined Utkatasana (Chair Pose) in the 1930s.
💛Krishnamacharya adapted this shape into the modern standing "chair" version to teach strength and endurance.
💚Krishnamacharya taught this variation to his students, including Iyengar, which ultimately shaped modern postural yoga worldwide.
💙In classical texts like the Gheranda Samhita, the pose was a deep, low, grounded squat.
💜In the Gheranda Samhita (a 17th-century text on Hatha Yoga), Utkatasana, often referred to as Utkatam or the hazardous/fierce pose, is mentioned in Chapter 2 (Verse 27).
🤍It is one of the 32 foundational asanas described in the text.

🤔But how does it look???🤔

In the Gheranda Samhita, the pose is described not like the modern-day standing Chair Pose, but as a deep squatting balance.

The Posture: You squat down with the feet upright, balancing on your toes with your heels raised and placed under the muscles between your sit bones.

Arm Position: You then rest your elbows on your knees and place your fingers on your face, or hold the hands in Anjali Mudra.

Down Dog is one or those poses that even if you dont know a thing about yoga...you know what it is.

Its a pivotal pose that you will find it almost every class you take in some variation. Offering a full body stretch, while building the muscles in the arm and the core, down dog is essential to your yoga practice. Understanding how to do it correctly can take this pose from a struggle to an active rest pose.

Yes. You read that right. Down Dog is considered a rest pose.

Other benefits of this pose is calf strength, calming of the nervous system, and enhancing your circulation just to name a few.

Come join Cari this Saturday at 9:30am for Understanding Your Asana where she will show you many ways to achieve this pose and teach you the benefits it has for your body and mind.

You dont want to miss it!
