We understand there may be some frustrated families regarding tonight’s cancellations. We’re frustrated with the amount of rain we’ve had this season too, and we absolutely want our girls on the fields whenever possible. However, there are several factors that go into the decision to cancel games beyond whether one field appears playable.

A few things we’d like to clarify:

1. Umpire availability matters. Umpires are already difficult to secure, and many travel from surrounding towns and prefer to work multiple games in an evening. Cancelling games on two fields while expecting umpires to travel for one remaining game creates additional scheduling issues now and going forward.

2. There is a reason we ask that field maintenance only be done with approval from our field manager or board president. We absolutely appreciate anyone willing to volunteer their time and understand the work is done with good intentions. However, sweeping lime, digging trenches, or moving material from one area of a field to another can create bigger drainage and maintenance problems later. A field also does not have to have standing water to be too wet to safely play on. Playing on saturated fields can cause significant damage and make preparing them for upcoming games even more difficult.

3. Field 1 was worked on today, but the other two fields and surrounding areas were still holding water and extremely wet. We have multiple teams and families to consider when making these decisions. Allowing games to continue on one field while cancelling everyone scheduled on the others isn’t a decision we take lightly.

We know cancellations are disappointing, especially when families have put time and effort into trying to get a field ready. These decisions are not made because we don’t want to play softball. Trust us, we do. They’re made based on field conditions, umpire availability, fairness across the league, protecting our fields for the remainder of the season and our athletes safety!

We also want to correct one thing that’s been stated: comments and messaging to the Twin Lakes Youth Softball page have not been turned off. Anyone with questions or concerns is welcome and encouraged to contact the board directly. We would much rather have a conversation and answer questions than have inaccurate information shared publicly.

We appreciate everyone who volunteers their time for these girls and everyone’s patience while Mother Nature continues to make this season interesting. 🥎❤️

Registration is OPEN for the **Ashley Summers Adult Co-Ed Softball Tournament!**

📅 **October 2–3**
📍 **Voigt Park | Monticello, IN**
💰 **$200 per team**
👥 Max 12 players | 3 females per team | Ages 18+
⏱️ 55-minute games

Most importantly, **ALL proceeds will go toward the Ashley Summers Memorial Scholarship.** 💗

🏆 The first-place team will receive tournament shirts **PLUS $25 for every team that signs up!** So grab your people, put a team together, and come play some ball for an amazing cause!
