Congrats to everyone who came out and competed at our Padded Weapons Battles Friday night. I asked for crazy expressions/poses for the photos and some of them really delivered. 🤣

Today is the last day to make up Stripes for Graduation next week!

Today and tomorrow are the last days to get your Black, Green and Purple tickets entered into the Prize Lottery!

5-7 year old kids in our BJJ Prep No-Gi class playing a couple of different games to develop wrestle-up and sweeping problem solving skills.

Can you believe it is AUGUST already?!?! Last week to get classes in before Stripe Night and GRADUATION next week. Also, 3 more days to get your Black, Purple and Green tickets in the lottery buckets. Have a great day!

Young children sometimes struggle with memorizing esoteric names for movements, so saying "take your partner down with Osoto Gari" can be a challenge. 😆 "Use your leg to hook their leg and trip them" on the other hand flips the right switches.

Our BJJ Prep 5-7 year olds played with all the different ways they can hook/reap their partners legs this week - inside, outside, high, low, flowing from one to the other - and started figuring out what worked/didn't work for them. Lots of little "light bulb" moments.

Then we ran scramble games, where they start tangled up in some weird spot on the mat and the only job is to end up on top. Every round starts different, so there's no memorizing an answer. They have to solve it.

To them it's a game with their friends. It's also balance, timing, and learning that being stuck is temporary if you keep working.

They finished by putting it all together with some sparring rounds. Its so much fun to watch a child that started out getting tossed around and smashed for their first few months start to do the tossing and smashing themselves!

Some action photos of kids in our BJJ Prep class for ages 5-7 playing a game to work on the basics of guard passing. Top player has to control the opponents hips and open the guard. Bottom player has to keep the top player broken down or sweep them, i.e. roll them to come up on top. Fun to watch the gears turning in their little brains as the learn what works and what doesn't!

Holiday is over - time to get back to work!
