It has been twenty years and one week since Fernando became part of the Country Ridge Stables family—joining us just one week before the very first horse walked into the barn.
We had heard he was known as “Uno” throughout the local horse community, but at the time, we didn’t fully understand what that meant.
Twenty years later, we do.
Fernando has been the calm we needed on our hardest days, always reminding us that things would get better. He has celebrated the good days with us and quietly carried us through the difficult ones. He has cared for every horse that has walked through our barn doors in one way or another. He has come in during the middle of the night to check on a sick horse, driven horses to the hospital at 2:00 a.m., offered advice when we needed it most, and worked on his days off when we were short-handed.
He has watched our daughter grow from a 10-year-old pony rider to competing in the Junior Hunters and Jumpers, and now the Adult Amateurs. He celebrated her wedding with us and has now watched her become a mother. He has cared for her horses through every stage and shared in our heartbreak as we said goodbye to some of the horses that meant the most to our family.
Over the years, we’ve also had the privilege of watching Fernando’s own family grow. We’ve seen him face difficult moments in his personal life with incredible strength and grace, never allowing those challenges to affect the care he gives our horses. We’ve watched him take care of his boys while Esmeralda was away and always put his family first while never losing his commitment to ours.
Fernando is the person who simply gets the job done. Whether it’s mucking stalls, administering medications, shipping horses, traveling to horse shows, giving injections—or even telling Amanda it was time she learned how to give those injections herself—he has always been willing to do whatever was needed.
We have been incredibly fortunate to have Fernando and his family become such an important part of the Country Ridge Stables family. Twenty years is an extraordinary milestone, but it’s the countless moments in between that have meant the most.
Fernando, we hope you know just how important you are to all of us. We appreciate you more than words can ever express. Country Ridge would not be what it is today without your dedication, your loyalty, your compassion, and your friendship.
“Thank you” doesn’t seem like enough after twenty years—but it comes from the bottom of our hearts.
Thank you, Fernando, for everything.
