One of the most common issues I see in young pitchers is sitting into their knees instead of hinging through their hips. They squat instead of loading. The result is less power, less explosiveness, and a harder time transferring energy efficiently.

A strong hip hinge helps:
✅ Increase velocity
✅ Improve stability and balance
✅ Create better hip-to-shoulder separation
✅ Improve consistency in release point
✅ Reduce unnecessary stress on the arm

I see you, Jazz!

ALUMNI UPDATE

Congratulations to Jazmyne Watkins on an outstanding freshman season at Dyersburg Community College.

Jaz put together one of the top offensive seasons in the conference, finishing tied for 3rd overall with a .432 batting average (.444 in conference play) from the left side. She impacted the game in every way possible — driving the ball with authority, creating extra-base hits, and putting pressure on defenses with her speed.

On the year, Jaz totaled:
• 9 Home Runs
• 7 Triples (2nd in conference)
• 9 Doubles
• 22 stolen bases in 23 attempts (8th in conference)

She also finished:
• 2nd in On-Base Percentage (.497)
• 4th in Slugging Percentage (.774)

What makes Jaz even more valuable is her versatility. She successfully hit throughout the lineup, from the middle of the order to leadoff.

Beyond the numbers, Jaz is the kind of teammate every program wants — unique athleticism and someone who brings great chemistry to the dugout every day.

She will be an immediate impact player for a four-year program looking to add athleticism, offense, and leadership to its outfield.

Everyone that knows me, knows I’m always and forever true blue, Bruins fan. Not only bc I was born and raised in Cali, but because of what this program embodies.

This culture is why.
Lisa and Kelly are a phenomenal duo, second to literally no one.

The culture, the environment, they have created for these young ladies is phenomenal. It’s what breeds loyalty. Much of their starting lineup are returning players.

If you didn’t watch the game last night, you need to.
They may not have pulled out the win, but they win in every way that matters. Class. Integrity. Sportsmanship. Talent. Respect.

The way this team has the back of their pitcher, Taylor Tinsley, is truly inspiring. Taylor stepped up in ways many will never understand.
The way she prepared herself, mentally and physically, knowing she was the only arm to carry this team, is simply amazing.
Her teammates recognize and respect it.
It was a total team effort to get them this far, and at a time in this sport where NIL has completely changed the landscape, it’s incredible to see this.
The way they surrounded her when things became stressful, to love on her, tune out the noise, and give her a moment to compose herself. Every time they made a circle around her and wrapped her up… 🥹💙

180 pitches in a game is insane.
You could physically see her trying to keep her arm loose. Trying to work through it. That kind of mental perseverance is rare. She’s not flashy, she’s a workhorse that will get things done.

Taylor Tinsley, the real MVP.

🥎Pitchers Take🥎

One thing I constantly try to get my pitchers to understand is that it’s not where the ball finishes that matters most. It’s what the hitter perceives on the way there.

Offensively, we train hitters to see the ball deep and make their “go or no” decision around the 12-15 foot mark. That means hitters are reading angle, spin, depth, and trajectory long before the ball reaches the plate. The pitch we commit to is a projection of where we estimate that ball will cross the plate- not the pitch we see, but the location we predict.

An angled pitch that simply drifts to the outside corner is going to get hammered.

A late-breaking pitch with true spin efficiency and the proper spin axis changes perception. That’s what makes a quality curve ball so difficult to square up. The hitter thinks one thing is coming and gets another.

Movement without deception is just location.
Late movement with proper spin is what changes at-bats.

If you’re not using technology, you’re behind the game.

What’s your spin rate?
What’s your spin efficiency?
