emergency care workers, educators and students an environment that simulates life-or death scenarios using computerized manikins and state-of-the-art technology. The Center for Simulation Excellence, a 4,700 square-foot simulation facility, features a classroom and nine rooms that can create emergency scenarios such as a car crash, bus rollover and a building collapse. The facility’s simulated environments include a residential nursery, patient exam room, ICU, emergency room/trauma, medical/surgical room, residential living room, and ambulance. The lab also features four high-fidelity training manikins (Sim Man 3G™, Sim Baby™ and Sim Man) that function almost like humans; blinking, talking, breathing, urinating, and registering a blood pressure and heartbeat are some of their capabilities. All lab environments simulate ambient noises such as diesels running, sirens in the background, family interactions and unanticipated distractions. ROOM FEATURES
Conference Room

This room is fully wired and ideal for small group sessions, training, presentations, and meetings. Ambulance Simulation Lab

Multidisciplinary teams are able to train on EMS protocols and inter-facility transfers. This lab is fully functioning with plumbed oxygen, electricity, and a 36-inch LCD screen to display video footage from the perspective of the front of the ambulance with interactions and commands from the EMS partner, as well as the patient’s family. The lab can simulate the actual transport from the scene to the hospital or from one hospital to another. Field Scene Simulation Lab

This lab simulates several different field scene scenarios, including a restaurant storefront, with a beachscape to simulate drowning, as well as general population emergencies associated with a heart attack or other emergencies. In the midst of the beach scene, there is projection screen to simulate a 50 pediatric bus rollover. This lab also has the ability to simulate patient entrapment and motor vehicle accidents. Infant Nursery Lab

This lab provides an opportunity for EMS and healthcare providers to train on infants who have medical emergencies in the field. The nursery simulates a baby’s home environment with ambient noises to simulate dogs barking, general conversation as well as parents’ interactions. Patient Exam Room Lab

This lab creates an opportunity for those involved in medical assisting and certified nurse assisting, as well as other clinical providers, to train in an exam room setting in a physician office practice or other healthcare setting. This multipurpose room can be used by intermediate school districts, career line training centers students, nursing students and others providing care in an outpatient setting. Medical/Surgical Labs

There are two medical/surgical lab environments that give clinical providers the opportunity to practice inpatient care techniques. These rooms are fully stocked with medical supplies to simulate a true inpatient environment. These labs are intended to improve clinical care in the medical/surgical environment. ICU/Trauma Resuscitation Labs

These labs give multi-disciplinary teams the opportunity to train together, including medical first responders, EMS teams, and hospital staff — from respiratory therapy to physicians. Teams learn the transfer of a patient from the field to the in-patient facility and simulate any type of resuscitation environment clinicians may run into. Living Room Lab

The Living Room Lab provides EMS and first responders the opportunity to practice field response on patients in the residential setting. Combined with the Ambulance Simulation Lab and the Emergency Room Lab Environment, medical first responders, EMS and hospital clinicians are able to work together to complete a transfer from a patient’s home all the way to the Emergency Department and then on to the Intensive Care Unit. Control Rooms

The Center for Simulation Excellence has two control rooms controlling the simulation experience in all nine rooms. From these workstations, technicians work with training staff to design and complete the learning experience. All units are video and audio equipped and networked to control the manikins and simulation programs. One of the manikins is fully wireless and can be controlled from a distance of 250 yards.
