Comfortable. Competent. Confident. ๐
There is one โCโ we want to avoid: complacency.
Because complacency can bring another C into our lives: consequences.
I almost learned that lesson the hard way when I was young.
I had gotten complacent with my sh***un. I was handing it to my brother without clearing it, checking the safety, or doing any of the things I knew I should be doing. As I handed it to him, I caught the trigger with my finger.
The sh***un fired.
Thankfully, the only consequence was a hole in the ground right next to my brotherโs foot.
I have never forgotten that moment.
Fi****ms are a lot of fun, and I believe we should be able to have fun with them. We can joke, tease each other and be a little silly at the range.
But the moment our hands touch a fi***rm, whether it is a BB gun, a 9mm, or a .50 caliber machine gun, it is time to be serious.
There is some truth in ๐ ๐๐ฉ๐ณ๐ช๐ด๐ต๐ฎ๐ข๐ด ๐๐ต๐ฐ๐ณ๐บ and the warning about shooting your eye out with a BB gun.
So as you become more comfortable with your fi***rm, more competent in how you handle it, and more confident in your abilities, remember this:
Donโt let confidence turn into complacency.
Have fun. Enjoy shooting. Just never forget what you have in your hands.
