College is an investment and tuition is only part of that investment. Sometimes students arrive on campus without a clear idea of what they want to pursue. They choose a major because it seems practical, because someone suggested it, or simply because they had to choose something.
Then a semester or two later, they're unhappy. They change majors. Classes don't transfer into the new program. Graduation gets pushed back. Or they become so overwhelmed that they consider walking away altogether.
There is nothing wrong with changing direction as you learn more about yourself. But helping a student gain clarity BEFORE making big decisions can save a lot of frustration, time and potentially unnecessary expense.
That's one of the reasons I love working with young adults. Coaching creates a space to slow down, ask better questions and explore strengths, interests, values and goals; so the next decision can be made with more intention.
If your college student is struggling with “What am I actually doing with my life?”, that's a conversation I'm very comfortable having.
