This is what the room looks like.
Guys leaning over canvasbacks, brushes down, studying how the paint sits. A bourbon glass within reach. The distiller talking through the pour while somebody next to him compares his bird to the man beside him. Nobody is in a hurry.
The Brushes and Bourbon format is simple: Brad teaches the Eastern NC canvasback step by step, and Bogue Sound pairs each stage of the painting with a sample from their spirits line. You leave with the bird you painted and a working knowledge of why these decoys look the way they do, block-paint, no eyes, built to show up in the water.
If your dad is the kind of man who would rather do something than receive something, this is the Father’s Day gift worth the drive.
Friday, June 13, 1:00 PM. . $115 per person.

Friday, June 13. . Twenty-five seats.
The afternoon runs like this: you pick up a blank wood canvasback, Brad walks you through the paint strokes that have defined the Eastern NC and SE Virginia working-decoy tradition, and the master distiller from Bogue Sound walks the room with pours at every step. By the time the paint dries, you have a finished bird on the table and a proper story to go with it.
All painting supplies, guided spirits tasting, and a DECOY swag pack are included. Tickets are $115.
If you have been looking for a way to spend a real afternoon, with good craft and good company, this is it. June 13 is a week out from Father’s Day, if that helps you decide.

What's in a Logo?
The duck on your chest pocket is a decoy. Drawn from an original Dudley canvasback carved on Knotts Island in the 1890s. Lee and Lem Dudley were twin brothers, watermen, market gunners. Joel Barber put their birds on the first three plates of his 1934 book.
Keith Hendrickson, carving in Locust, North Carolina, drew the DECOY canvasback from that same reference material.
From Knotts Island, by way of Locust. DECOY from New Bern. The story is from the water.

Twenty years. An entire generation. Some came home. Some did not.
The drake widgeon on the bench carries the campaign service medal awarded for Operation Enduring Freedom. The black ribbon laid in front of him is for the ones who did not come home.
Twenty-four of them, hand-painted, each with a wood stand. A portion of every one sold goes to the Global War on Terrorism Memorial Foundation — the organization congressionally designated to build the memorial that will stand on the National Mall.

The 2026 Memorial Day decoy carries the campaign service medal awarded for Operation Enduring Freedom — the longest war in American history. The black ribbon laid in front of the bird is for those who did not come home. A portion of every one sold goes to the Global War on Terrorism Memorial Foundation, the organization congressionally designated to build the first national memorial to the men and women who served in that conflict.
Twenty-four were made.
Tomorrow at ten.

Long summer days on the Carolina coast don't always follow a plan.
A walk down the beach turns into a boat ride. A quick swim turns into dinner by the water. The best pieces are the ones that can keep up without looking like they're trying too hard.
The Ladies Tidal Short was built for exactly that—soft stretch comfort, a polished waistband, practical water-ready details, and an easy fit that moves from beach to bar without missing a step.
Made for salt air, warm sand, and coastal evenings with nowhere better to be.
