New Pendant for Friday’s Auction…

My silver seashell casting session didn’t turn out so well. The sand cast was incomplete and the edges were ragged. It looked broken! My first thought was to discard it and try again, but the more I looked at it, the more enamored I became. Its brokenness was no longer a defect but the story of a seashell’s journey.

We tend to walk past broken shells on the beach, hunting for the perfect, unblemished ones. Collect enough of them and they all start looking alike… just another shell. If you have a jar full of perfect seashells and one is broken, where does the eye go?

Its imperfection is what gives this piece character. Ragged edges, missing pieces… nothing to suggest anything special. But look inside and there it is: a hand-carved abalone heart, shimmering in pinks, purples and greens. The outside tells one story while the inside tells another.

Maybe that’s true of more than shells. Being a little rough on the outside from the journey is often just the hallmark of where you’ve been… and those are often the ones holding the most beautiful memories within.
Beauty isn’t always on the outside. Sometimes it’s found within.

And just for fun, a little mermaid tail is hiding the bail. See it Friday at the auction.

The Sentinel: St. Michael Shield Pendant

Sterling silver with a burnished finish against a dark oxidized background that makes the design stand out.

Saint Michael is the patron of police, military, and first responders. Every part of the insignia has a meaning:

Wings: the archangel
Halo: his divine nature
Spear with cross on top: the faith he defends
Satan’s horns split beneath the spear: evil defeated
Lightning: the power of God working through him

The master was made by hand from copper. I originally planned to sand cast each piece, but couldn’t achieve the fine detail I wanted, so I switched to investment casting, which captured every line of the design.

Available to purchase right now in Auction Collection.

I finally pulled an American-mined oval Gold Canyon turquoise cabochon out of my cabinet, where it had been waiting for the right project. I sketched out a Southwestern-style pendant, pictured it in solid copper, and made the whole thing by hand: a bezel-set stone, a twisted rope border, and a scalloped edge.

This will be part of Friday’s Auction lot! Don’t miss out.

Auction Time!

This is the pilot prototype that led to the final design of the Corda Invicta Rosary.

What’s different about this piece?

It uses a thicker, higher-rated cord and was the first to carry a Mariner’s Crucifix. The current production rosary uses a thinner-diameter cord that tested over 1,000 lbs. This prototype was built the same way, with a heavier cord, so it should theoretically exceed that rating.

Dyneema cord. Purple Heart wood beads. All-bronze hardware, sand-cast in-house.

One of a kind. This is where the Corda Invicta story started.

Auction starts today 12pm PST.

Silver Cross with Abalone Inlay

Made this special cross for my niece, who brought me some abalone shells to work with. I hadn’t used this material before, so I improvised a bit… hand cut the shell with a jeweler’s saw, carved a wax cross, and cast it in silver. Lots of refining to get everything fitting just right.

I’ll need to do a little more research on working with abalone, as I’ve already got a few more ideas brewing… all in all I’m pretty happy with how this one turned out. What do you think?

Have you worked with abalone before? Any tips or ideas I should try?

As a maker, I’m a total sucker for functional art. Even when a design is purely technical, it can still be beautiful. Every curve exists because it has to. Nothing’s there for show, and somehow that’s what makes it so damn good looking!

I lost my old Bialetti moka a while back, and when I finally went looking for a replacement, the turbo moka found me. So far I love it. Made by a small Italian company, everything produced exclusively in Italy. No outsourcing. No shortcuts. The way it was meant to be.

Now if you’ll excuse me, this strong caffeinated elixir isn’t going to drink itself.

The Sworn Cross… a one of a kind sterling silver pendant inspired by our Santiago Cross, reimagined where medieval meets dagger.

Hand carved from wax, then sand cast in solid silver. This is the only cast ever made from this model. Front and back, two distinct designs… two looks in one pendant. High polish finish, crafted by hand. 🗡️

Going up for auction soon… drop a 🔥 if you’re ready to bid.
