Mikes Bike Shop is a family owned business serving the Palatine Community for 65 years. Fred Mikes established Mikes Bike Shop in 1959. Wood Street.

After high school, he trained as a car mechanic, and during WWII, he trained as an aircraft mechanic. Eventually, Fred’s mechanical abilities and the “American Dream” led him to open a bike shop. Fred planned to open his own bike shop in Bensenville where he lived. Then he met Gil Smith who owned a bike shop in Palatine. Gil was looking to sell his shop and Fred was looking to buy a shop. Happy National Earmuff Day. Fun Fact: in 1873, 15-year-old Chester Greenwood got tired of his ears freezing while ice skating. Instead of complaining he invented the Earmuffs. So, here's to you Chester for saving us from the "Frozen Ear Syndrome" for over 150 years.

Big shoutout to Joshua for leveling up his ride recently. He swung by Mikes Bike Shop and scored a sleek new helmet plus a bright front and rear light. Now he's fully geared up for those morning and evening rides. Proud of you Josh - ride safe, ride happy and keep those wheels turning.

Just a quick heads-up that it's time to Spring Forward. Before you head to bed tonight, remember to move your clocks ahead one hour.

This powerful quote from Woodrow Wilson reminds us that leadership isn't just about making decisions - it's about listening, empathy and staying connected to the community you serve. President's Day is a timeless reminder that the strength of a nation lies in its people. Wishing everyone a meaningful holiday.

Young Pete, on National Latte Day,
Sought some foam in a latte bouquet.
He sipped with a grin,
Milk froth on his chin,
And caffeinated his day away.

So, come into Mikes Bikes with a latte in hand,
Get a Tune-Up Deal that's the best in the land,
Improve your ride to be smooth and tough,
And take twenty off, which is truly good stuff!!

There once was a guy named Pete,
Who shoveled the snow to the street.
In front of Mikes Shop,
He did work non-stop,
Till his shovel cried out in defeat!

But Pete with his grin and a cheer,
Cleared paths so the riders could steer.
Matt tossed him a brew,
Said, "This one's for you-
Best slinger of snow the whole year!

The land is draped in heavy white,
A frozen, silent floor.
The winter wind had teeth last night,
Against the rattling door.

But look-the sky is brilliant blue
A gold and glowing flame,
The sun is breaking boldly through
To play it's ancient game.

Though frost may bite and shadows creep,
The light refuses rest,
For even while the gardens sleep,
This day is golden-blessed.

A rider named Pete had a flat,
And wondered, "Now what about that?"
To Mikes Bike Shop he flew,
Where they made it like new,
In the time it would take for a chat!!

MLK Day is a meaningful day to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr- a day to reflect on his message of equality, justice, peace and the power of "The beloved Community." Whether you are participating in a day of service or taking a moment for personal reflection, it's a wonderful opportunity to consider how we can all contribute to a more inclusive world.

A camel on hump day felt bold,
And pedaled his bike through the cold,
With snow on the trail,
He knew he'd prevail,
And forgot the desert of old!
