Two hot days of showing at Hidden Lake Farm and the girls brought home a total of 15 ribbons!

Lynleigh and Finn It to Win It (“Finn”) had 6 ribbons in Short Stirrup.
Waverly and All’s Fair (“Farrah”) placed in both the Walk/Trot Poles Division and Walk/Trot Crossrails.
Desi and Voodoo Queen (“Junebug”) brought home ribbons in Walk/Trot Poles and entered their first Walk/Trot Crossrails classes.

The horses and riders all showed such an amazing amount of progress since the show season began. The horses were quiet and well-behaved and the riders were poised and coachable. No trainer could ask for more.

Show jumpers are bought and sold on it. Eventers are made on it. Dressage is it.

Every discipline rests on the same foundation.

The riders who reach the top of theirs have one thing in common — they did the flatwork properly. The riders who get stuck have one thing in common too. They did not.

Flatwork is not warm-up. It is not preparation for the real work.

It is the work. Everything else is the expression of it.

That is why we start there. And it is why we keep coming back.

If they can’t walk and steer, they can’t trot and steer.
If they can’t balance at the trot, they aren’t ready to canter.
If they can’t go catch their own horse, groom it, tack it up and take responsibility for it, how are they supposed to lead that horse from the saddle?

Going faster does not equal getting better. Strapping your kid to a horse and sending them into the arena isn’t making them better, it’s setting them up to get hurt.

You might think watching your kid walk circles isn’t exciting. You might think they should be cantering, jumping “doing more.”

But sometimes they’re simply not ready.

And respectfully — that’s why you hired an instructor. Because knowing how and when to progress a rider is our job.

We aren’t holding your kid back. We’re building the foundation that keeps them safe and makes them GOOD.
