**Attention Former Athletes — This One's For You.**

You know the feeling.

The season ended. The team disbanded. The structure disappeared. And nothing replaced it.

You've tried the gym. You've tried running. But it's not the same. Because what you actually miss isn't the exercise.

It's the competition. The camaraderie. The feeling of being part of something that pushes you.

That's exactly what we built the Combat Athlete Accelerator for.

**What Is The Combat Athlete Accelerator?**

An intensive 8-week no-gi grappling program designed specifically for former athletes who are ready to compete again. No experience necessary — just bring your athletic background and your competitive mindset.

If you wrestled, played football, or competed in any sport — your base translates directly onto the mat. We'll build the rest.

A room full of people who are serious about getting better — and having a great time doing it.

**What's Included:**
8 weeks of structured coaching built around NLGA's Silverback System — plus a free uniform kit when you sign up.

**NLGA Mentor Finishes Top 2 in the World**

It was a banner weekend for No Limits Grappling Academy at the ADCC World Championships in Krakow, Poland — and they didn't have a single athlete in the building.

Joshua Saunders, the Sydney-based competitor who serves as the gym's mentor and technical advisor, claimed a silver medal and cemented his place among the best heavyweights and overall competitors in the world. Along the way, he scored a massive upset over Felipe Pena, the tournament's number one overall seed.

ADCC is the largest and most prestigious no-gi grappling tournament in the world, drawing competitors from every corner of the sport. For a gym in Blakely, Pennsylvania to have someone who finished top two in their corner is an unusual asset — and head coach Matt Marcinek knows it.

**An Unconventional Arrangement**

"I've said before that this mentor and technical advisor role — or whatever we're calling it — definitely goes against the norms of jiu-jitsu," Marcinek said. "But I wouldn't have it any other way."

The most common objection is geographic.

"A lot of people say, how can he be your coach but live on the other side of the globe? Well, with a traditional affiliation you probably have a black belt who did something special twenty-five-plus years ago, and they come visit your gym twice a year and only see your athletes when they're in the building."

"Here I have a person who is achieving at the highest level in real time. Someone I can talk to daily if I want to. I can share my athletes' progress and get real-time feedback. It might be unconventional, but it's awesome."

**Tearing It Down to the Studs**

The relationship has been as much a learning experience for Marcinek as it has been for his athletes — something he's direct about.

"It's funny. I'm fifteen years older than Josh. I've been training eighteen years longer than Josh. But when his coaching program opened, I was literally the first person to join, because I knew what he was doing was special."

The numbers back that up. Saunders earned his brown belt in twenty-four months, his black belt in four and a half years, and finished second in the world within six years of starting.

"I told him just this morning — I came into this program as a thirty-nine-year-old brown belt and I threw out most of the grappling knowledge I had. I tore everything down to the studs and built it back up, getting the exact same system Josh and his coaches used to reach that level."

"If all I have to do for NLGA athletes to have that kind of success is put my ego away, that's an easy decision."

“I get the chance to train at Gyms all over the world and I am glad I was able to train here. Solid fundamentals for the entire crew and the owner head coach Matt has a phenomenal understanding of body mechanics and the concepts behind the moves not just the application. If you live in the area and are looking for a gym to grow and compete with or just traveling through its worth stopping by. Also only open mat on a sunday.”

A black belt from California walked into our open mat on a Sunday.

He trains at gyms all over the world. He's seen more rooms than most of us ever will.

What stood out to him: solid fundamentals across the whole crew, and an understanding of body mechanics and why things work — not just how to do them.

Coming from someone with that much perspective, a compliment like that means the absolute world to me.

Thank you Dean. You've got a place to train here anytime you're in the area. 🦍

Last year, nobody at No Limits got promoted.

Not because our athletes weren't working. They were. The standard just wasn't met, and the honest thing to do was say so.

That decision cost us. A promotion is one of the few visible markers of progress in a sport where improvement is otherwise hard to see. Withholding it for a year means asking people to trust the work is landing without giving them the evidence they'd normally get.

But here's what happens if you promote a few people who aren't ready: every athlete in the room who was close correctly concludes that the requirement is patience, not performance. The standard doesn't get slightly lower. It stops existing — because a standard that bends once is understood by everyone present to be negotiable.

This year, we promoted three. Those promotions meant something precisely because of the year that came before them.

We wrote the whole thing out — what actually gets someone promoted here, why it costs us athletes, and what you get in return.

A question we get all the time:

"I can probably only train 2x a week — is that enough?"

That's actually the wrong question to ask.

Frequency isn't what determines whether an athlete gets good. Someone who trains 4x a week for two months and disappears ends up well behind someone who trained 2x a week for a year. Not slightly behind — substantially.

Frequency is a multiplier. Duration is what's being multiplied.

There's more to it than that — why spacing sessions out actually helps, what separates two athletes taking the exact same class, and the real reason people quit (it's almost never because they stopped enjoying it).

"Matt is an outstanding coach. The only gym I’ve felt a personal connection with a coach who actually cares about me reaching my goals. A friendly environment where you WILL get BETTER every single session. I recommend No Limits Grappling Academy to every single person no matter the experience level."- Nick A.

Three weeks.

Nick was only here for a short time. Three weeks — and that’s all it took for him to feel what we’re building.

Not a year. Not after a new belt. Three weeks, and he understood that this isn’t about selling memberships or handing out techniques.

It’s about actually caring whether the person in front of you gets where they’re trying to go.

That’s the whole thing. That’s always been the whole thing, and it always will be. 🦍

It's not always about the time people put in, it's about the time you put into people

Thank you, Nick. You’re always welcome here!

"We love NLGA. The improvements I've seen in my son in the last 3 months is amazing. Coach Matt keeps these kids on their toes and is constantly challenging them to be the best they can be."
— Allison V.

This is exactly what we're going for
Three months. Real, visible improvement. Not because anyone went easy on him — because he got challenged, pushed, and held to a standard the entire way.
That doesn't change whether you're an adult or a teenager. Everyone who walks through this door gets coached the same way. Real attention. Real expectations. Real development.
Thank you, Allison. So proud of the work Mason's putting in.

Strong showing for the Silverbacks at the Good Fight Scranton Scramble.

The day started with Mason Veina earning a silver medal in his jiu-jitsu tournament debut! Only two months and some change into training with us. Mason has shown the type of dedication, hunger to learn, and work ethic that make him a perfect fit at NLGA

Billy Costner went 1-1 giving up 60 pounds to his opponent and still took it to overtime. That’s not a loss. That’s grit, poise, and tenacity on full display.

Mike Wahlers went 0-2 in his first ever grappling tournament. And his second match looked nothing like his first. That growth in real time — that’s exactly what this is about.

But the moment of the day belongs to Brian Porcello.

0-2 in his first tournament performance. GOLD today.

I’m not always the easiest coach to train under. I demand a lot — in understanding, in ex*****on, in standards. I challenge these athletes constantly.

And they meet it. Every. Single. Time.

To say I’m proud is an understatement.

The best part?

We’re just getting started.

I've had an amazing experience training here. From day one, the atmosphere has been incredibly positive and welcoming, making it easy for practitioners of all experience levels to feel comfortable and supported. Whether you're stepping onto the mats for the first time or have years of experience, everyone is treated with respect and encouraged to grow.

One thing that really stands out is the depth and quality of the instruction. The classes go far beyond just teaching techniques—they provide detailed breakdowns of the fundamental systems of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and explain how everything connects together. This approach helps students build a strong foundation while also developing a deeper understanding of the art.

The training partners are fantastic as well. The room is full of skilled practitioners who are always willing to help, share knowledge, and push each other to improve in a positive way. The culture that has been built here makes training both challenging and enjoyable.

Most importantly, Head Coach Matt genuinely cares about every student who walks through the door. He gives individual attention, takes the time to answer questions, and is invested in helping each person reach their goals. His passion for teaching and commitment to his students is evident in every class. If you're looking for a place to learn high-level Jiu-Jitsu in a supportive and welcoming environment, I can't recommend this academy enough.- Kevin C.
