We find that "Building Better Bodies & Stronger Minds" within our students is a way to motivate them to do so. Serving Peekskill, Westchester, Putnam Valley, Cortlandt Manor. We've been teaching men, women and children the art of Karate for over 25 years! Our core program focuses on instilling Self-Control, Focus, Self-Discipline, Goal Setting, Positive Attitudes and Respect in each student whether they are 4 years old or 64 years old. Each student will be on a journey of a lifetime creating a sharper, supple body and discover themselves in a unique way. Learning is the key to all our work. Making the atmosphere safe and enjoyable is our goal. Parents who have been with us for a while say that Go No Sen Karate is a intricate part of their family life. Unlike other sports, which have try-outs, we encourage all students to participate and gain all the benefits the Martial Arts have to offer. Our teaching is done as if we were working with our own family. Students have fun while learning important lessons for life. In a caring environment, with positive role models to enhance personal growth, Students improve at an individual pace and learn respect for themselves and others. Do you believe that karate is just about kicks and punches or winning trophies for display? That's not the atmosphere here at Go No Sen Karate Dojo. Our objective is to teach the life-affirming art of authentic karate and to instill self-respect. At our school we use our ability as teachers and mentors to influence rather than force students into action. This creates self-discipline. By realizing they have choices and the ability, both physical and mental, to deal with challenging situations, our students gain the confidence to overcome them. Children often feel scared and helpless when they become victims of neighborhood or school bullies because they don't know how to deal with these aggressors. Go No Sen Karate not only teaches the self-defense skills that our children need in today's world, it also instills the confidence and self-discipline that leads to self-respect. Most people think karate teaches kids how to fight. That is not the attitude we have. Instead, we teach them the skills and give them the confidence so they don't have to fight!

🥋 FROM WANTING TO QUIT TO LEARNING HOW TO NEVER GIVE UP! 💜💛

Meet Liam Hernandez, 2026 Go No Sen Karate Black Belt!

Sometimes the greatest victories aren't about defeating an opponent.

They're about overcoming the voice inside your head that tells you to quit.

And for Liam Hernandez, that's exactly what his karate journey has been about!

Liam's story began when he watched a movie about fighting evil. Inspired by what he saw, he told his dad that he wanted to learn how to fight.

His father introduced him to Go No Sen Karate, and what started as a childhood dream became a journey of personal growth!

But it wasn't always easy.

There were times when Liam struggled with techniques, felt frustrated, and even wanted to give up.

At one point, he stopped training.

But something brought him back.

With encouragement from his father and the guidance of the instructors at Go No Sen Karate, Liam returned to the dojo and began discovering something much more valuable than learning how to fight.

He was learning how to believe in himself!

As Liam progressed through the ranks, he faced new challenges. Some techniques were difficult, some classes pushed him outside his comfort zone, and there were moments when he questioned whether he could continue.

But each time he pushed through, he grew a little stronger.

Not just physically, but mentally and emotionally!

One of the most meaningful parts of Liam's story is the appreciation he expressed for his dad.

His father encouraged him to train, motivated him when things became difficult, and helped him understand that achieving something worthwhile requires commitment.

Liam also expressed gratitude to his mom for supporting him throughout his journey and to all the instructors at Go No Sen Karate who helped him grow.

In May 2026, Liam proudly earned his First Degree Black Belt.

But the greatest achievement wasn't the belt itself.

It was the confidence, perseverance, and self belief he developed along the way!

💜 Liam, we're incredibly proud of the young man you've become.

Your story reminds every parent that sometimes the most important thing we can do for our children is encourage them to keep going when they want to give up.

Because the lessons they learn today become the strength they'll carry into tomorrow!

Congratulations, Liam! You EARNED IT! 🥋👏

💜 BELONG • 💛 BELIEVE • 🖤 ACHIEVE

Okay, Parents. Let's Take It Back. 🎃

What Did YOU Dress Up As For Halloween When You Were A Kid?

Were you a superhero every year? 👻 Something homemade? Did your parents put together a costume five minutes before trick-or-treating? 😂

Bonus points if you still have a picture!

Halloween Is Almost Here! 🎃

A few reminders for a fun and safe night:

🔦 Make sure kids are easy to see after dark.

👟 Choose costumes they can comfortably walk in.

🚦 Stick together and watch carefully when crossing streets.

🍬 Check treats before the kids dig in.

And most importantly…have FUN! 👻

Gather 'round, kids, for a tale that's bright,
On Halloween's eve, under the moon's light.
Where pumpkins glow with a cheeky grin,
And the air tingles with magic within!
Ghosts and witches, they dance and twirl,
In this enchanting, mystical world.
Where fortunes are told by the brave and bold,

And stories of Halloween are joyfully retold.
It's a night for fun, for laughs, for play,
For bobbing for apples in a jolly way!
So sing with me, to a tune so sweet,
As we tap our feet to the Halloween beat:

"Jack-o-lanterns shining round,
In the moonlight's shimmering gown.
Goblins giggle, witches weave,
On this magical Halloween eve.
Halloween, oh Halloween,
Where the future's a mystery yet unseen,
Halloween, dear Halloween,
Is the night where magic is the queen!”

So let's jump in, let's laugh and scream,
On this wonderfully spooky Halloween!
Come, let's celebrate, let's shout with glee,
In the world of Halloween, where we're all free to be

Miyagi was right.

Karate isn’t here.

In the fist.

It’s here.

In the head.

And here.

In the heart.

The punches and kicks are the practice.

The real lessons are:

How you think.

How you respond.

How you treat people.

What you do when you’re afraid.

Who you become when things get hard.

That’s the rule.

Karate trains the body so we can reach the mind and heart.

So when you watch your child in class, don’t only ask:

“Are they getting better at karate?”

Ask:

“Who are they becoming because of it?”

Because the technique may win a match.

But the person they become can win at life.
