We asked Austin the hard-hitting questions:

What’s one lesson you’ve learned the hard way in the events industry?
A: Don't just assume something is going to be there at an event. First event I did I assumed I would have a table to set out my badges. Oops, I was completely wrong. It ended up with me sitting at half of a 3x3 table registering people and handing out badges. Now some people say "wow, you're really adamant about making sure you have a table." Yeah, cause I've been burned before.

What advice would you give to someone just beginning their journey within our industry?
A: You have to be collaborative. You have to be willing to work with people and meet somewhere in the middle.

What’s one myth about events that you'd like to bust?
A: That events just happen. That there aren't weeks upon weeks of planning that goes into events with curveballs all over the place. A lot of people assume that you check a few boxes and food, drinks, name tags, speakers, and everything else just shows up.
