Intro to Longsword - Dallas Renaissance Sword Guild The Dallas Renaissance Sword Guild is a Historical Fencing or HEMA club in North Dallas/Richardson. We study a style of fencing taught by masters from
Short attack and defense sequence with partisans. This cycles through several parries that we practiced tonight from the bolognese system, and it gives the attacker several oppertunities to work on renewing an attack.
Drill we learned from Mariana of at the Texas Sword Retreat back in '22. It is great for picking up tempi, and rapid target aquisition.
The coach leads the foot work and presents the weak of their sword. The student then climbs the ladder striking the weak, attacking a shallow target, followed by a deep target and exiting while finding the coach's sword with a beat again. The student should only be given a small amount of time to react to the invitation.
Alternatively the coach can present their hand as though they are prepping a cut and the student strikes the hand and exits.
Tons of room for variability including having the coach attempt counter attacks or parries to train 2nd intentiacquisition.
Let me know if you have variations of this.

Reminder that DRSG will be closed on Saturday for the July 4th holliday. Everyone have a fun and safe weekend and we'll see y'all next week!
Drill utilizing some of the basics from dagger while fighting in armor with a longsword. While the coach rows in at the student looking to get hooks to set up throws or a thrust, the student looks for an opportunity to interrupt the action by wrapping the arm in a middle lock (modern term is standing americana). The student then goes for their dagger or attempts to place the point of their sword if they can.
