🚐 **RV ADVENTURE: Our First Mouse Encounter!** 🐭

When you put your RV in storage, you expect everything to be just as you left it. Well… sometimes life has other plans.

Last week we stopped by to check on our RV and discovered we’d had some very unwelcome visitors. It was **over 100°F inside**—and that was with the RV sitting in the shade! The little critters definitely left their calling cards everywhere they had been. In all the years we’ve stored at **Holbrook Pond**, this is the very first time we’ve ever had a mouse problem.

Yesterday became **cleanup day**. We spent more than two hours disinfecting the counters, sinks, and every surface, emptying the pantry, and stripping all the bedding. Yes... they even crossed our sacred threshold.

Thankfully, everything in the pantry was either canned or stored in sealed plastic containers, but we decided not to take any chances and threw it all away.

We stocked up on traps and rodent-repellent pellets, placing them throughout the RV—on the bed, kitchen counters, bathroom counters, storage areas, and other likely hiding spots. Now... we wait.

The silver lining? Based on the "gifts" they left behind, we're hoping there are only a couple of tiny trespassers. Here's hoping they get the message that **this RV has NO VACANCY!** 🚫🐭

🧠 **Sankofa Corner – A Word from My Wise Husband**

"It's hot outside, and even though our RV has those big 120-volt rooftop air conditioners, they don't run while it's sitting in storage unless you're plugged into shore power or using a generator. We're seriously considering installing a small 12-volt air conditioner that can run off batteries and solar to help keep the inside cooler. It may not solve every problem, but reducing the extreme heat might make the RV less inviting for unwanted guests. Check out this link for more information https://youtu.be/tAcsKw-pIDU?is=VAmcJxh6HBTnn96I"

šŸ’¬ Have any of you dealt with mice in your RV while it was in storage? We'd love to hear what worked best for you!

Feel free to share your best mouse-prevention tips in the comments—we're always learning from this amazing RV community! 🚐🐭

šŸŒž RV NUBEZZ SPRING BREAK @ Holdbrook Pond Campsite

The days didn’t rush… they unfolded.

There was self-care…
hair getting braided, energy being restored.

There was nourishment…
a homemade vegetarian linguini with sautĆ©ed spinach, paired with a toasted English muffin—simple, but made with intention.

There was connection…
the kind you can’t schedule.

We met our neighbors, Christine and Michael Wasanaby—new to camping, preparing for a whole new chapter in Alaska. What started as a ā€œhelloā€ turned into real conversation… the kind where you realize strangers ain’t really strangers.

šŸ”„ CAMPGROUND ENERGY IS DIFFERENT

If you know, you know…

Campground life got its own spirit.
People stop by.
Stories get shared.
Doors stay open.

We connected with LaShanda and Terrell Smith and their children… laughter, presence, real family energy. The Watanabe's came back through, and before long, it wasn’t just a campsite… it was community.

One day, Shawny, Terrance, and their daughter Krii joined us.
We walked down to the pond… sat with the breeze… let the silence speak. When the air turned cool, we moved inside—but the connection didn’t stop.

šŸŽ„ MOMENTS OF STILLNESS

In between it all… we gave ourselves permission to just be.

We sat back and watched episodes of The Twilight Zone breakdowns—letting the mind wander, reflect, and stretch beyond the usual.

šŸŽ™ļø STILL SHOWED UP

Even out there… we showed up for Taking The Journey Together. our online program about balance healthy relationships.

Technical difficulties tried to test us—the mic wouldn’t cooperate—but the people did. Patience. Positivity. Presence.
That’s what carried it through.

And afterward?
We sat down together at Good 2 Go Jamaican restraint… sharing food, laughter, and gratitude. That’s what it’s about.

šŸŽ CREATIVITY IN MOTION

This wasn’t just a getaway… it was alignment.

We sat with LaShanda for a read-through of the play Craig and I co-created… and something lit up again. 2026 ain’t just an idea…
it’s a direction.

We also made a quick run into Hinesville and stopped by Postal Hive a new print, ship & mailboxes business—always love supporting our own—and handled what needed to be handled.

šŸŒ… THE REFLECTION

As the trip came to a close…
we didn’t feel like we were leaving something.

We felt like we were taking something with us.

Rest.
Connection.
Vision.
Clarity.

Sometimes you don’t need a far destination…
you just need space to remember who you are and who you’re becoming.

šŸ”„My wise husband's-SANTO SANKOFA CORNERšŸ”„

There’s a growing push encouraging Black folks to get outside, to camp, to explore—and that matters.

But it’s not just about Black people camping…it’s also about who represents the space.

We’ve done this before.
We’ve served as camp hosts.
We’ve poured into campground communities, supported, organized, and helped these spaces grow.

So when we came back ready to serve again, it wasn’t just about getting a spot…it was about continuing something we already helped build.

But this time, the decision went another way. And what stood out wasn’t just that we weren’t selected…it was who was selected instead—individuals with little to no experience in hosting, and no visible connection to the kind of community-building work we—and others like us—bring into these spaces.

In today’s climate, we have to be honest about what’s happening.
There’s a shift in how institutions respond to anything that reflects inclusion, especially in spaces connected to systems like the military.

So we have to ask:

šŸ‘‰šŸ¾ Who is welcoming people when they arrive?
šŸ‘‰šŸ¾ Who reflects them in leadership and presence?
šŸ‘‰šŸ¾ Who helps shape the culture of these spaces?

Because representation isn’t just about being present…
it’s about being positioned.

If we truly want to see more Black People Camping Too here enjoying this life, then it’s just as important that Black camp hosts are visible, Black leadership is present, and Black voices help shape the experience.

Not as a favor.
Not as a trend.
But as a natural part of the community.

This isn’t about bitterness… it’s about awareness.

We’re still going to camp.
Still going to build.
Still going to connect.

But we’re also going to name what we see.

Because Sankofa teaches us…
if we don’t learn from what’s happening now, we’ll keep walking into the same doors expecting a different welcome.

āœŠšŸ¾ UNTIL THE NEXT JOURNEY…

Grateful for every moment.
Every conversation.
Every breath of that pond air.

RV NUBEZZ… still learning, still growing, still moving.

Seasonal Prep at Holbrook Pond – Fort Stewart

This Saturday we went out to Holbrook Pond at Fort Stewart to do our winter prep on the RV. šŸŒ¬ļøšŸš

Before the cold really sets in, we:
āœ”ļø Checked and secured the batteries
āœ”ļø Inspected the converter
āœ”ļø Tested the generator
āœ”ļø Walked through the inside to make sure everything is set properly for the winter season

No one wants to sit through winter with preventable problems. This is the kind of work you do while you have the chance — not when the weather turns on you.

Preparation is peace of mind.

If you have an RV, boat, or any equipment sitting through the colder months, now is the time to check it. Don’t wait until spring to find out what winter damaged.

We’re planning to be back out around March or April when the weather breaks again.

Until then — stay ready so you don’t have to get ready. šŸ’ŖšŸ¾

Community, Connection & RV Dreams 🚐✨

What started as a simple visit to the RV Show at the Savannah Convention Center turned into something much deeper—a genuine moment of community across generations.

Three families came together, led by Sharon and Imara, alongside fellow RVers Fred & Karen, and Terrell & Lashanda with Jhamel & Ashlyn, who are exploring the RV lifestyle. Children and grandchildren were part of the experience too—asking questions, learning, and catching the vision right alongside the adults.

The conversations flowed easily. Stories were shared. Questions were answered. Ideas sparked. What stood out most was the joy of families learning together and imagining what life on the road could look like.

By the end of the day, plans were already forming—for a future RV outing and another gathering.

This is what the RV journey can be about:
connection, shared wisdom, and building community while dreaming forward—together.

If you’re new to RV life, thinking about it, or already rolling, moments like this remind us why the journey matters just as much as the destination.

RV-NUBEZZ Adventure Recap: Holbrook Pond & Nearby Parks - 3/28/2025

We’ve had the pleasure of staying at Holbrook Pond many times—even serving as camp hosts in the past. This time, though, we decided to mix things up and visit a few parks in the area. Here’s a glimpse into our adventures!

Bryan Commons Park

On Tuesday, we explored Bryan Commons Park and discovered that the Telephone Museum, a place we’d wanted to visit for years, was located inside the park. Perfect timing!

At first, we weren’t sure if the museum was open. I rang the doorbell, and just as I was about to leave, the door opened, inviting us into an incredible journey through the history of telephones—from the very first design to modern telecommunications.

The park itself is a lovely spot, featuring a Veterans Walkway, two serene ponds, kids’ play areas, and a walking path.

Irene B. Thomas Park

On Thursday, we checked out Irene B. Thomas Park, a quaint, tucked-away gem in an older community. It has a nice playground for kids and a small lake where we saw locals fishing. We enjoyed a peaceful walk around the lake and felt a real connection to the space.

Curious about the park’s namesake, we later found out that Irene B. Thomas was a beloved figure in the neighborhood, remembered for being a pillar of the community.

James A. Brown Park

This park offers plenty of activities! From a disc golf course to tennis courts and well-maintained facilities for youth sports, James A. Brown Park was buzzing with energy.

We also had the pleasure of meeting a friendly young couple, Jordan and Jalisa, and their son Julian, who were full-time campers staying at the site next to ours.

Although Spring Break was winding down, we decided to extend our stay another week, giving us a chance to enjoy dinner with our new friends! On Wednesday, Jalisa prepared a delicious meal of steak, shrimp, and salad, while I air-fried chicken thighs. We had a wonderful evening of conversation and connection.

On Thursday, Jordan and Jalisa joined us as guests on our live-streamed "Taking the Journey Together" program. It was an incredible way to share their story and experiences with our RV community!

A Unique Departure

Friday marked the end of our stay, but this time our departure was a bit unconventional. Imara and I left from two different locations to meet on the highway towards our next destination: Blythe Island Campground. Imara handled the final prep, including hoses and slides, while I rushed from work to catch up. After a mad dash, I joined him just in time to lead the way. What an adventure!

Holbrook Pond and its surrounding parks offered us relaxation, inspiration, and wonderful connections. Where will RV-NUBEZZ journey next? Stay tuned! 🚐✨

****Holbrook Pond - A Getaway (March 28, 2025)*****
Every once in a while, life calls for a break, a moment to step away from the noise of everyday responsibilities. We felt that pull recently, and after much deliberation, decided it was time to escape the hustle and bustle—even if just for a couple of days. Imara and I had originally planned a romantic getaway for Valentine's Day, but as life often does, things didn’t go as intended. So, we pivoted and set our sights on Holbrook Pond, a little slice of tranquility not too far from home.

With my work commitments looming large, we couldn't venture too far, but the thought of spending a few peaceful days in our RV felt rejuvenating. As we packed up, I could feel the excitement bubbling beneath the surface. Imara had been working hard on various projects and was overdue for some relaxation. When we finally hit the road, the weight of our daily obligations began to lift, replaced by the promise of a refreshing retreat.

Arriving at Holbrook Pond, we were greeted by the serene beauty of nature. The gentle rustle of the trees and the soft ripples of the water seemed to welcome us into their embrace. But as we settled in, the cold temperatures reminded us that winter was still hanging on. The first week was a chilly one. Though the sun shone brightly, the brisk air kept Imara cooped up inside instead of enjoying the great outdoors. I went to work during the day, while Imara tackled some of the projects he brought along, his creative spirit yearning for expression even in the stillness.

As the week progressed, we checked the weather forecast and saw that warmer temperatures were on the horizon. With that glimmer of hope, we decided to extend our stay by another week. Come the following weekend, the chill began to fade, and we finally had our chance to explore. Imara began to unwind, and we took long, leisurely walks by the water’s edge, basking in the sun’s warmth. There was something magical about those moments, hand in hand, surrounded by nature's beauty.

But true to Imara’s nature, relaxation wasn’t enough. He was itching to keep busy, and as the trip neared its end, he took on a project to seal a section of the RV roof. I admired his determination, but I secretly hoped for a few more moments of pure leisure before we had to head back to reality.

Our final evening was meant to be a peaceful one. We decided to take a walk and test out a new gadget Imara had been excited about—a small flying camera that could capture the stunning scenery from above. As we strolled down the narrow road, laughter and anticipation filled the air. But our plans took an unexpected turn when we were approached by a game warden.

The officer informed us that flying the camera on the property wasn’t allowed. Before we could process what was happening, the situation escalated. In no time at all, we found ourselves surrounded by three uniformed officers, two plainclothes detectives, and four vehicles all converging on our quiet little walk. With only the two of us on that narrow road, it felt like we were the stars of a bizarre reality show.

To our bewilderment, the officers classified the flying camera as a drone and confiscated it, assuring us we would eventually get it back. The moment felt surreal—a stark contrast to the peaceful getaway we had envisioned. So much for a relaxing last evening under the stars!

As we returned to our RV, we couldn’t help but laugh at the unexpected turn of events. Even in the midst of chaos, we recognized the adventure of it all—a story we would share for years to come. In the end, while the getaway had its ups and downs, it reminded us of the beauty and unpredictability of life, and that sometimes the journey, even with its curveballs, is what truly makes it memorable.

šŸŽ„ Christmas at Diamond Lakes šŸŽ„

This holiday season, we kicked things off by settling into Diamond Lakes for a few days, making our space cozy and welcoming. One of the first things we did was hang our Unity flag, a symbol of our togetherness and community spirit. After two days of preparation, we headed back home, where Craig took on the beloved role of Santa Claus once again. It was heartwarming to see the joy on the kids' faces as they lined up to receive gifts during our nonprofit's fifth annual holiday celebration in the community.

However, Diamond Lakes looked quite different this year. The aftermath of the storm was evident everywhere, with trees down all over town, including many that were lost in the campground. It felt like visiting a friend who tends to leave a bit of chaos in their wake. Despite the challenges, we made sure to visit Sandra Lamb and the kids, as no trip to Diamond Lakes would be complete without them.

For Christmas, we decided to treat ourselves to couples massages at Agusta Massage, allowing us to unwind and relax after the holiday festivities. The weather was chilly most days, but the afternoons warmed up nicely, so we made it a point to take daily walks, sticking to the doctor’s orders. Some of our walks were longer than others, primarily from our campsite into the park and back.

On our warmest day, my husband surprised me with a special outing. We had planned to visit the James Brown Museum, but to our dismay, it was closed on Mondays. Instead, we opted for a stroll along the River Walk, which was right nearby. Unfortunately, we noticed that the storm had also taken its toll on the trees lining the path, but we were grateful that the walkway was clear enough for us to enjoy. While walking, we stopped by a local shop and struck up a conversation with the owner, who shared some great insights about the area. Before leaving, we learned about renting a boat as an Airbnb, which piqued our interest.

As we continued our walk, Imara mentioned wanting to cross the bridge, so we decided to go for it. After crossing, we were ready for a late lunch, but our favorite vegan restaurant was closed. While contemplating our options, we drove past Groucho’s Deli and decided to check it out. As we circled back, we noticed a bookstore and saw two young ladies entering. Being avid book lovers, we couldn’t resist going in. To our delight, we found Nicole and Ashley, who were browsing the shelves filled with works by Black authors. Imara struck up a conversation with them, and we ended up chatting for about an hour. Their energy and enthusiasm were refreshing, and it made our day even more special.

After our delightful bookstore visit, we finally made our way to Groucho’s for what turned out to be an early dinner. On our last day at Diamond Lakes, Imara had the chance to meet one of our RV neighbors. They spent some time getting to know each other, sharing stories about their life journeys, which added a nice touch to our trip.

Reflecting on our time at Diamond Lakes, it was a memorable Christmas filled with love, community, and new connections. ā¤ļøāœØ

🌿 WE ARE BACK---Bliss Hills Farm Adventure 🌿

Saturday

We finally made our first trip since June 2024, and it felt even more special after Craig’s illness in August. We decided to head to Bliss Hills Farm for a week of much-needed rest and relaxation. The drive was about an hour, and the scenery was beautiful—until we hit the dirt road! Thankfully, it was less than a mile. As we arrived, Karen greeted us at the gate with a warm smile, and we got settled in, meeting the welcome wagon: Ava, the family dog! 🐶 There’s something about the open road and the promise of new adventures that fills the soul with joy.

Sunday
Today was all about exploring and connecting with nature! Karen took us on a grand tour and introduced us to her amazing garden. She gifted us some fresh lettuce and kale, and we learned about barrel gardening. Karen grows all sorts of veggies and herbs, including garlic and turmeric. We even met her hen who loves munching on veggies! After the garden, we strolled down to the lake and fed some huge catfish. While relaxing in a swing, we were joined by a six-toed cat—apparently, this breed was brought to the U.S. by Ernest Hemingway! 🐟🐱 It felt like every moment was a reminder of the beauty in simplicity and the joy of being present.

Monday
We went sightseeing today! Metter is just twenty minutes away, and our first stop was a Black-owned hair care store, celebrating our culture and community. We also checked out a consignment shop, where we spent a good amount of time browsing treasures and sharing stories with the locals. It’s amazing how shopping can turn into a soulful experience when you’re surrounded by good vibes.

Tuesday
We had plans to visit the Telfair Museum in Savannah, but it was closed. Instead, we had a lovely chat with a young lady on her lunch break, sharing laughter and stories. We then reconnected with an old friend, Jerome Meadows, a talented Black sculptor whose work speaks to the heart. About 11 years ago, he opened his studio for Imara’s gallery exhibit called ā€œAnd Justice For All.ā€ After our visit, we enjoyed lunch at Geneva’s Chicken and Cornbread. The food was incredible! I had stewed salmon with shrimp fried rice and greens, while Imara savored turkey wings with rice and blueberry cornbread. Each bite was a taste of home, reminding us of the love that goes into cooking. We wrapped up the day at a special Christmas musical event in the Yamacraw community, where the music filled our hearts with joy and nostalgia. šŸŽ¶šŸ½ļø

Wednesday
Today was all about relaxation and reflection. We took a long, peaceful walk around the lake, soaking in the beauty of nature and the serenity it brings. There’s something so healing about being surrounded by trees and water, allowing our minds to wander and our spirits to rejuvenate.

Thursday
The highlight of Thursday was simply resting and enjoying each other’s company. We took another walk and ended up relaxing on the dock, feeling the gentle breeze and listening to the sounds of nature. I prepared dinner, cooking a duck in the air fryer and making cornbread dressing in the convection oven. šŸ— It was a labor of love, and sharing a meal together felt like a celebration of life.

Friday
We woke up to rain on Friday, but it only lasted in the morning. The temperature dropped, creating a cozy atmosphere. We took our time packing up our site before the sun went down, cherishing the memories we made during our stay.
Saturday

Bliss Hills Farm was a fantastic place to camp! With only three RV sites and two cabins, it was peaceful and free from distractions. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home. Karen and Mike even helped take down our tent to protect it from the wind while we were in Savannah. This trip was the perfect way to relax, reconnect, and ease back into camping. It reminded us of the importance of taking time for ourselves and the beauty of shared experiences. Can’t wait for our next adventure! šŸŒ„āœØ
