Sometimes a simple phone call turns into something much bigger.

A while back, Steve Paluck from Chicago Fire Department Engine 68 called the shop looking for the right fins for his surfboard. After calling around, he ended up calling us at SoCal Surf Shop. We treated each other with mutual respect, talked surf, and made sure he got exactly what he needed.

Fast forward to today, and Steve surprised my entire family with an incredible care package from Engine 68—T-shirts, patches, stickers, keychains, and a thank you card that made us feel grateful that there are amazing humans all around the world. Now we’re proudly representing Chicago Fire Engine 68 here in Southern California.

It’s a great reminder that customer service isn’t just about making a sale. It’s about treating people right. You never know when a conversation about surfboard fins will turn into a genuine friendship that spans across the country.

Steve, thank you for your generosity and for everything you and the men and women of Chicago Fire Department Engine 68 do for your community. We’re honored to wear your gear and represent Engine 68 on the West Coast.

Some mornings, all it takes is one text from my brother Kevin …

“Let’s go surfing.”

He wanted to head down to Old Man’s at San Onofre for a longboard session. I’ll admit, I was a little reluctant at first… but when Kevin says, “Let’s go surfing,” it doesn’t take much convincing. 🤙🏽

“The swell is pumping right now. Let’s be in the water by 6:30, I thought a.m. ? Yeah, before the line gets to long to get in.”

Done!

We paddled out to well-overhead waves, the water was unbelievably warm, and I spent the entire session surfing in my usual jacket & boardshorts… at 6:30 in the morning… and I was actually HOT! Summer in Southern California doesn’t get much better than that.

We scored some great waves, shared a lot of laughs, and came home with exactly what the doctor ordered.

Too bad my other brother, Mike Alger , had to work and couldn’t make it. We’ll get him out there next time once he gets that sand removed.

Sometimes the best therapy isn’t found in an office sitting around a desk—it’s found with family, saltwater, and a few good waves. 🌊🏄🏻‍♂️🏄🏽

AM Uniform ➡️ PM Uniform 🤙🎨

This week its been surf trunks ( Birdwell Beach Britches )and a Matuse, Inc. wetsuit jacket… because that’s just the summer dress code around here. 🏄🏽

Fast forward to the afternoon, and the uniform changed to checking out the fresh new paint going on at the shop. A little less geoprene, a little more paint fumes. 😆

We’re giving SoCal Surf Shop a fresh facelift, but don’t worry…
