Kudos to our students who participated in the Nick Itkin Cup SYC in Palm Springs last weekend. From the newcomers to the seasoned fencers, we are proud of your accomplishments!

Over the summer, we hosted a fundraiser to send fencing equipment to a K–12 school in Poltava, Ukraine. Thanks to the support of several San Diego–area fencing clubs and generous donors, we raised enough to purchase and ship 12 full sets of equipment (masks, jackets, swords, gloves, and chest protectors) along with a digital scoring machine.

The shipment took nearly two months to travel from Los Angeles to Ukraine, but Coach Sergii’s childhood friend, Valentine (a teacher at the school) reports that the students are absolutely loving their new fencing program.

Great job all Forte Fencing Club students at the last San Diego Cup tournament of the year!

Important announcement: I’ve set out to support my childhood friend Valentine—who I went to school with and trained alongside in fencing and pentathlon—who is now a teacher at a K-12 school in Poltava, Ukraine. In the midst of the ongoing war, life for many Ukrainian kids has been turned upside down. Despite the challenges, Valentine is determined to give his students something to look forward to—discovering the sport of fencing.

Thanks to the generous support of La Jolla Fencing Academy and The Fencing Post, I’ve already received several donations of gently used fencing equipment. Now, I’m raising funds to cover the final essentials: a scoring machine ($500) and international shipping costs ($400).

I’ll also be donating additional equipment myself and will personally cover any remaining balance once all donations are received. Every contribution brings us closer to making this dream a reality—and gives these students a chance to focus on something positive, empowering, and completely new.
