Welcome to Nick’s Cove in Tomales Bay, CA! Nicolina, our dog-friendly over water cottage, was recreated from the 1930’s hay ferry vessel that once transported feed across the bay to nearby Marin County ranches. Nicolina is tastefully decorated with wonderful nautical accents, and has a fabulous view that overlooks Tomales bay and the rolling hills of Point Reyes National Seashore. With the patio facing west, let me just tell you, the sunsets do not disappoint.

Located just 1.5 hours north of San Fransisco, Nick’s Cove has twelve recently renovated, historic Cottages. Seven of these cottages are dog-friendly and each one is adorable, though we highly recommend Nicolina because, lets face it, sleeping on a boat over the water is pretty cool!

Nick’s Cove is a Travel + Leisure “It List” winner and after our stay, I can completely understand why. Each distinctly designed cottage is appointed with plush down comforters, wood burning stoves, and bathrooms with heated tile floors and soaking tubs.

There is also an on-site, DELICIOUS restaurant that serves coastal classics that are locally sourced. The restaurant has indoor dining and a dog-friendly patio on the dock. Be sure to let them know you are staying in the cottages and you will receive two complimentary oysters, however you like them, per person!

Complimentary Continental breakfast is delivered each morning to your door and you can also choose from a variety of other breakfast items for purchase, if you would like something more.

Every single day, hundreds of dogs lose their lives in shelters across the U.S.

According to Best Friends Animal Society, that number is 568 dogs a day, which is about one every two and a half minutes.

How can you help? Adopt. Rescue. Donate. Foster. One thing I hear all the time is, “I could never foster because I’d end up keeping them all.” Trust me, I get it. I fall in love with every dog that comes through my door. But for me, fostering is about helping as many dogs as possible get their second chance, even when saying goodbye is hard.

And the reality is - they need us now more than ever.

There are millions of people planning to bring home a pet this year - if only a small percentage chose adoption over buying, we could dramatically reduce shelter deaths nationwide.

This post isn’t about guilt or judgment. It’s simply about awareness. Shelters everywhere are overwhelmed right now, and so many incredible dogs of all ages, breeds and personalities are running out of time through no fault of their own.

If you’ve been thinking about adding a dog to your family, please consider adopting. If adoption isn’t possible, fostering can truly save a life by giving a dog a stable andsafe place to land while they wait for their forever home. And if fostering isn’t an option either, there are still so many ways to help: donate supplies, volunteer your time, assist with transport, share rescue posts or simply help spread awareness.

It truly takes a village.

We may not be able to save every single one, but that should never stop us from trying to save the ones we can. It will change the world for them.

This quote broke me but also put me back together. ❤️

This time of year always hurts. There are so many painful milestones. I lost Tonto in June eight years ago, and Finn in July four years ago. Somehow it feels like forever ago and yesterday at the exact same time. The world kept moving forward without them, but a part of me is still back in those summers, still wishing for five more minutes with them.

What breaks my heart most is realizing how much time has passed. I know I will never forget Finn, but sometimes I panic over the little things I can’t remember as clearly anymore. The exact sound of his deep bark that came so far from the depths that he had to bounce on his front legs, the kind look in his eyes when he stared back and me and looked into my soul, the way his fur felt behind his ears where it was a thinner and more soft texture - all the tiny things that once felt impossible to forget. Losing him was one kind of heartbreak, but realizing memories can fade around the edges somehow hurts all over again each and every day.

I think that’s why this quote hit me so hard:

“Even though you didn’t make it to the end of my story, I will always have the corner turned down on your page, because it was one of my favorites.”

Because it says perfectly what grief feels like. Some souls change your life so deeply that even after they’re gone, every chapter after them carries them with it. I would have taken a lifetime more with Finn and Tonto, and it still would not have been enough.No amount of time with them ever is.

I just don’t think I was ever meant to love them in a way that had an ending, so I keep their corners turned down, not to stay stuck there, but because some of the best parts of my story will always live in theirs. And I wouldn’t want it any other way.

God knew exactly what He was doing when He created dogs. ❤️

He made something that could walk into our lives quietly… and somehow become woven so deeply into our soul before we even realize it.

They love us through every version of ourselves - the broken parts, the whole parts, the days we feel impossible to love. They stay when the everything feels heavy. They lay beside us when we cry and try to kiss the tears away. They forgive us before we even ask. And without ever speaking a single word, they teach us what unconditional love actually looks like.

I truly believe dogs are one of the purest reflections of God’s love we will ever experience on this earth. There is no other love that compares.

Which is why losing them hurts the way it does. Because one day, the eyes that searched for you in every room slowly close. The paws that followed you everywhere stop walking beside you. The heartbeat that brought you comfort becomes a memory you would give anything to hear one more time.

There is something life altering and soul shattering about having to let go of something that never once let go of you.

But even knowing how devastating the goodbye will inevitably be, I would still choose the grief every single time.

Because being loved by a dog, even for a short while, is one of the greatest gifts God has ever given me.

And no matter how badly it hurts when they leave, I will spend the rest of my life thanking Him for the privilege of loving something so pure. They are my greatest blessings.

Avoiding people is a lifestyle. Approaching dogs is instinct.
